i work for the parks and rec department of a small town and we are having our annual halloween bash this weekend. i thought setting up an area to photograph the kids in their costumes would not only earn money for our programs, but also help promote my business.

i plan to get a hay bale for them to sit on and decorate wtih pumpkins, a scarecrow, etc. for the background i am considering using a projector to paint large craft paper with a big full moon and a witch and maybe a tree with an owl.

i am going to order the prints and have them available for pick-up at our rec center (where i work and where the event is held). i am charging $4 for a 4x6, $6 for a 5x7 and $8 for an 8x10. i think i will also post reduced prices for additional prints. does this pricing seem fair? i want it to be reasonable as we are in a low income area.

i thought i'd share as others may be able to do something similiar as a way to promote their businesses. and i also have a few questions...

where do you think is the least expensive and highest quality online printing? shipping is of course an issue, as i'd like to get them here asap at a reasonable rate.

i have never done something so "official", but i figure i have to start somewhere! thankfully since it is a small town i will know a lot of the kids already. that said, any advice on capturing a great, posed shots or on decoratng the area would be greatly appreciated! also, should i just hand everyone a business card after their shots? last year i walked around and took some candid shots, and i had a few parents ask if they could get prints. i thought about putting up the candid shots on photoreflect and handing out my card with the password to sell the candid shots myself.

i have a 28-135 which i am pretty sure i will use. i also have a 100 but i think i would have too much distance between myself and the subject. i also have a 430ex and a softlight reflector. thus far i have been very happy with the flash indoors. thanks in advance for your responses :D

IMHO - forget the 4x6's and sell only a package (eg. of 8x10 & 5x7) and clearly state that the profits are going to the cente.

Determine a price that you would pay on impulse.

Doing the same thing on saturday.

I'm doing the same décor, but forgoing the background in lieu of a buttery bokeh verdant background.

Pricing is a tad higher, blur I'm going to offer medium-rez adware-watermarked wallpaper online for free. Same idea though... It's for community benefit.
