We have several Gila woodpeckers around our yard. I would like to get some of them to nest in a woodpecker house instead of our Sugora catus. There are already a couple of pairs using the catus and I would like for there to not be anymore holes in the catus if possible. Anyone got an idea if there is a way to get them to nest in a house? What kind of house?
Thanks
Guerry

I've haven't had any luck with Northern Flicker houses. Lots of the birds around but hey ignore my offerings of homes.

I haven't had any luck either - I put up a starling-resistant flicker house a couple of years ago and had no takers. There are plenty of woodpeckers around and lots of trees so there must be enough natural cavities to go around. Now they do use my bluebird box in the winter to roost - for whatever reason they seem to like it.
