Me and my friend Pat thought it was too beautiful of a day to not do something semi-productive... so he grabs his board, and i grab my 20D.
Flash was not used in any of these pictures... That's definatly next on my list of tools to utilize.

very very minimal post-processing. Just a quick mess with the curves, saturation, and maybe a gradient here and there that didn't take up any more time than 20seconds.

are you kidding? I'm a poor college student who spends 95% of his money on camera gear, I'll take any food that i can get!

Did you use the Tamron AF 28-75mm lens? My son's been after me to shoot him and his friends on the old skateboard.

I used my 50mm, F9 1/125. Focus is a bit soft. Of course, I couldn't get the boy to wait until I was ready and he broke his board when landing.

yea i used the tamron, with an F-stop around 8 most of the time. Itry to stick around tv500 at the least to catch still action. Pretty nice shots, try being a little more brave and get under the subject so the background isn't as distracting, also giving the subject an exaggerated "flying" look.

These are really good ... love the random cool guy shot.

Some fill flash might have benefitted the first two ... as you said, next on your list.

The on-camera flash is probably better than the external Vivitar 2000 i have... and that reaches only what? 30ft at most under exteme aperture. The time for me to learn flash has come :(

btw the scoobie gets 30mpg... but probably about 8mpg when i'm "casually" driving through the mountains :-D

nice shots! - yeah fill flash is a definite must. heck, i use two flashes on my bracket when taking sk8r shots . you made up for the grey sky pretty well - it's hard to do that effectively.

i'm hoping we have decent weather this weekend - i hope to go to chatswood and/or manly for some good sessions.

I would try snapping a pic at the top of the arc while he is in the air rather than when he first leaves the ground. Also get under him a little.
