Well I'm no macro photographer, but the whole concept has alway intrigued me. Rather than go out and buy a dedicated maco lens, i went the cheapskates route with a kit lens(18-55mm) and a reverse-mount adaptor.

My first insect i found which was dead(is that cheating?) is some kind of fly. Never seen one like it, the colours are really nice - quite the opposite of a fly:p

Pictures are all resized, not cropped. First picture is 2 exposures blended to get more DOF. Also i used an off-camera flash diffused by an umbrella while the subject is jjust on paper.

Please let me know what you think..

Lovely shots and very colourful fly- shows what can be done with the kit lens :)

Looks like a greenbottle to me. Well done some good shots.
Cheating? my first was also a dead fly, at least it stays still to practise on. Macro is not only taking pics of insects :-)

Thanks LordV and bbulldog:)

Yeah i was very surprised at what the kit lens could do, you can get a pretty sharp image when stopped down to F/11 - which seems to be the sweet spot!

Will have to find some more things to practice on now:D

Good job!

And to think all done with a reverse mounted lens!
