I know how to do a "double exposure" in digital as far as taking a large picture of the moon or something and making appear very large on a city skyline. this is very easy to do because of the dark/light differences.
What I am trying to do however is this:

Has anyone done this in Photoshop? I'd like to do it with one RAW file then make two images, one light and one dark then merge them. I hope I'm making sense here :-(
I've blended images before but never ended up keeping the things i liked in the dark image and keeping the things i like in the light image.
