Always amazes me how good this compo is. Dropped my 300 from about 3 feet in its padded case. Seems to be ok though.

Fun to shoot football in the day time. Thanks for looking.

Very nice snaps. Oh, how I yearn for shooting football in daylight.

Wow...I'm impressed. Very sharp images. Using a full frame body? You're already at 420mm without the crop factor. Monopod, I'm sure, yes?

Great job!

Nice, I like how you've stayed low so you can get up into
the eyes...

Nice tight, crisp shots. Some of the frontlit shots seem a little hot, but harsh light and white uni's are a tough combo. I like the exposure on the last image the best, and the backlit shots are nicely done.

Nice shots Dan.

I tried same combo yesterday at the afternoon game. Couldn't get closer as I didn't have field access. My observation is that 500mm f4 would have been better and I should sell 300mm f2.8 IS & 500mm f4 IS and get 400mm f2.8 IS. But then I will have to caryy lot more weight which is quite hard for me.

Bobby, I think a 400 would be perfect. When I first got my 300 prime I thought, " wow this is hard I couldn't imagine shooting with a 400 prime". Now I leave the 1.4tc on and shoot at 420mm and love it. 300 seems short now when I take it off. On a side note. Did you use your battery pack this weekend?

Yes, 400mm f2.8 would be ideal for baseball, football etc.

I did try CP-e4, it worked quite well. But the game wasn't that good, totally one sided and the local team got trashed pretty bad. The field doesn't have much space around it so shooting with 300mm alone is hard. I need to get another body for my 70-200mm f2.8.

My lens after dropping. Luckily I had it in my padded case and had the 1.4 on it. Just not what you want to see on a $4000 lens. >:(

Ouch! that hurts Dan.

I bumped my 300 against the wall and scratched the paint a bit near the mount and it still hurts everytime I see it.

Never carry a 300 with the shoulder strap without the back cap on. :(

Ouch! that hurts Dan.

Luckily it didn't damage anything but the cap.

That reminds me. My 300mm is not added to my insurance. Need to call statefarm.

I would probably be paranoid if I dropped the lens or hit it hard against something by accident because I would probably think something is wrong with it. When I was at London Drugs trying out the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS Lens, I was being really careful not to drop it.

I would advise against it. I've used it at three games since and all were actually better then usual. Maybe I knocked it more true. :)
