Most of the female photographers doing weddings/etc I've seen dress in comfortable semi-formal clothing; some prefer black, but other colors are fine as long as they're neutral or not overly intense and distracting. Wear something that's nicer than a t shirt: Don't look quite like a guest but definitely don't look like an employee of the venue.

My recommendation: a classic dark pantsuit and flat shoes. You need to be able to move freely (which is why the pantsuit and the flat shoes) and you need to look professional (which is why a dark color, even black, is best).

I wear nice black slacks, a black button down shirt, and black flats. :)

Would think anything that's not going to draw attention to yourself - Remember you're not a guest but there on business as it were.
Good luck!!

I always wear black flats, black slacks and a black or dark color shirt (dark forest green or sometimes dark navy blue.)

I wear smart pants, neutral colours or black with a smart shirt or top. I always test it the night before as i dont want it too restrictive when moving around. I always have flat black shoes aswell, simply because i worry about wearing heels and tripping and looking like a fool!! and they are more comfy then heels.
Wear what you are most comfy in but make sure it looks smart

You could wear a very flowing pair of black pants with a dressy top, and you wouldn't believe the compliments you get on how professional you are...

sounds like my attire, with some comfortable shoes and a tank top under the blouse to catch the sweat and keep the girls in firm:)

A long time ago I went to a friends wedding. It was a guy I used to work with. My wife and I planned on getting married the following year. Not really noticing whom the photographer was at the time of the wedding. After he returned back to work I asked him who their photographer was??? He gave me her business card. I made an appointment to talk to her. She was working out of her house. I stopped one day. It was in the winter. It had just snowed. Unknowned to me another guy I worked with lived across the street from this lady. He was out shoveling snow and told me I could park in his driveway. I told him what I was there about. He said to me, "you remember that lady that was at our firends wedding with "blue jeans" and her "hair up in curlers"?????!!!!! That was her!!!!! Needless to say I didn't hire her!!!!!

Funny story, Tom. How you look definitely plays a part in what people think of you while on the job. Plus, personally, I just think it's tacky and tasteless to wear jeans to a wedding - whether you're a guest or the hired help.

Usually a black pant suit, blouse and comfy flat shoes for most the year. In the summer I tend to dress more casually, dressy capris, light weight blouse, sometimes sleeveless. Shooting a summer wedding in black is not only uncomfortably hot, but I'd usually stick out like a sore thumb too.

just a questions on make up for female photographers. Since your eye is on the backside of a camera pretty much all day long do you go without make up? maybe just go without eye makeup so you don't mess up the view finder? your thoughts...

I wear make-up, but only natural looking. I still like to look smart and dressed-up for the occasion, even if I am behind a camera all day. lol

I wear all black...but I would like to get a little more stylish by adding more modern accessories.

I wear very light makeup. I like to look put together, but I don't want to wear to much makeup that could possibly smudge. I never wear mascara when shooting. Usually a foundation, a little blush, a little shadow and a subtle lip color.

A cat woman suit...oops..I meant to say, all black, slacks (pants with pockets is a plus) with button shirt, keeping the makeup natural and hair back.
