View Full Version : Another Video Newbie Question...

I just got a Canon Vixia HF-100 which records on SD-HC cards. My card reader and system read the card fine but on Windows the video file appears as "private" and Windows movie-maker software does not recognize the file. The bundled Canon Image Mixer software easily recognizes and plays the files but has very limited editing capability (A). Even after file is imported with Canon software the windows program will not open the file. Any ideas?

Probably need to convert the file to something other than what it currently is.

I think you are right. The included software does not allow you to convert to another format. Do you know of a reasonably priced package that would convert these Canon files to something windows will recognize.

this program probably will.

the download link is on one of the pages, I guess they want you to read as much about the features as possible before you download the program. Oh, and it's completely free.

here is the page with the download,

I use it to convert videos from a Sanyo HD camera to DV for editing in Premiere CS3.
I also use it to convert files to play on my Zune and my cell phones.

I cant get it to work. I get an encoding error. The error message says that the program is not compatable with Vista. Although the info at download says it is compatable. I have an .m2ts file and I can't do anything with it! The lousy software Canon included recognizes the file but will not allow me to flip it over>:(

check out the h.264 forum on dvinfo.net for good advice on what editing packages to use with h.264.
