Yes folks, it's that time of year.
Show how creative your are without a camera in your hands.
Either you, or your kids have carved some pumpkins, and you have some photos of them somewhere.
Dig them out, and share them here.
Yes, I'll start.
Here is my pumpkin from 2002.

I can't find any photos from 2003.
2004

2005
Apparently, I did the same pumpkin two years in a row.

and 2007

Who knows what I'll do for this year. I haven't decided yet. Since I need to choose my pumpkin according to the design I do, I better decide soon. We are headed to the pumpkin farm tomorrow.
Perhaps the Grim Reaper?

You should do a youtube video showing your technique.
Unfortunately, someone else already capitalized on that. It's their idea that I'm using.
You can check it out Here (http://www.pumpkinmasters.com/)
I buy new patterns all the time. Try to keep it fresh instead of doing the same old design every year (like I did with the Witches Brew).

Is that Evil Emperor Zurg from Toy Story? That's Great!
As for the five pumpkins, I'll probably be right in there again this year.
We grew some pumpkins this year. They are okay sized, but not what I need for my carvings. So I bought a big one.
Now we have five pumpkins again.

Questions.how does one take a good photo of a pumpkin in the dark while it's lit? I canot seem to do it:owell make sure your focus is on the candle light if you can see it and then use a semi high iso speed like 800-1600 in tv mode.

For the images I posted,
The two photos from 2006 were shot at 1/5 of a second at f/5.6 on ISO 200
The one from 2007 was 1/15 f/5.6 ISO 200
The group shot from 2005 was with my Powershot G2. ISO 400 1/10 shutter speed and f/2.2
Closeup of the witches brew was ISO 400 Shutter 1/25 f/2.5
Pumpkin from 2002 also shot with my G2. ISO 50 Shutter 1/5 Aperture 2.2
All shot using a tripod. As for focus, I focus on the pumpkin itself and not the candle.
I found that if I focus on the candle at that wide open of an aperture, your pumpkin has a good chance of being out of focus.

Hi David. :) It's all my own work, I drew on the pumpkin with a whiteboard marker and if I didn't like the looks of it, I just wipe it off and start again. Once I was happy with the design, I just broke out my ol' trusty penknife.
I've always been good at art, so I guess it shows in here.

Thanks to everyone for posting.
As for my pumpkin with the cats (and the pirate ship), those pumpkins were a little small.
Only around 7 inches high. So I had to shrink the pattern down.
If the pumpkins had been twice that size, the carvings would have looked better.
There's always next year. :D
Then again, I could always carve a watermelon like Athena did one year.

Actually, I save my patterns from every year. Instead of ruining the books and only using the patterns once, I photocopy them so I have them for another time. ;)
Just for size reference, here is a shot of all four of them together. Had they all been large like The Grim Reaper, then I think the cats and the pirate ship would have turned out better. When you reduce the patterns in size, it gets tougher to make those cuts.

^ Those are great. How did you light them up like that?
For the first pic I made a holcer from a cheal ceramic ceiling fixture, the kind that are in many closets and I have a low wattage compact florescent bulb screwed in. On Halloween night I remove the light and replace it with a fireplace starter log. They burn for about 1/2 to 1 hour so I generally need 2 to get through the night. Surprisingly they do not really damage the pumpkin all that much.

I am so trying to starter log trick next year lolForgot to add, place the starter log on top of a tin can and not on the bottom of the pumpkin. It probably would work, but then the flames don't come out the top so far.

Okay Boys and Ghouls, it's All Hallows Eve in some parts of the globe.
It's tomorrow here in the states.
What's everyone got going in the creativity department for this years Jack-O-Lanterns?

I went the easy route this year. I had to work all day, and since I carve on Halloween, I didn't have a lot of time.
I give you, The Pumpkin King.

That's awesome. My daughter wanted to do the kitty-bat this year, and changed her mind at the last minute.
Sometimes simple ones are the best. Thanks to everyone for sharing.

They look so angry when they have that burning fire in their eyes. I'm not a skilled carver and this was for a carving contest amongst friends where we only had an hour to work. I won :D I have pics of all the pumpkins, but they haven't been "developed" yet.
