I have a question about T & I photos. The city recreation department has a photographer doing this for them and she gives them $1,200.00 year. The county recreation department does not have anyone and I have been asked about this. My question is I know some shoot and give the recreation department a percentage, what is the going rate for something like this 10% ( I know that some will say that depends where you are, I'm just looking for some suggestions or guidance right now)? The county recreation is not near as large as the city if this worked out it would be a great way to get started and work up. Thanks in advance.

10% for most but I do know a couple of companies that give back 30%, not sure how they do it since the margins or so low usually

You answered your own question already saying it depends on area. The money they're paying is a vendor fee pretty much it sounds like if it's a flat amount. Around here none of the companies I researched did kickbacks or vendor fees. I got asked about it once (not actually a percentage but supplying something to the league at my cost). I told them I sure can but it means my prices are going up so the parents are actually the ones paying for it as my profit margin is pretty low already. They immediately said no and they'd pay for it instead - this year however my prices went up and I do as it was a good enough idea to put into the business plan for youth leagues. 30% though is way to high, 15% at most and they better be working for you and helping all you need.
