what do you want to do?Do you need automatic flash metering (ETTL) or no?

no need for metering, im gomnna shoot through umbrellas and boxes etc, and prefer to set my things manual so I get what I want and not what the machine tells me to get
a bit like why would i shoot manual, but have my flashes do everything automatic

If you have no need for ettl then there isn't much sense in paying for it in a 430EX. I'd go for a Vivitar.

hmm, yes you are right, ok let me go and check what the price diff is between a vivitar and a 430EX....if its not too much i'd still go for the 430EX as i know it well, and iof its not too much more then i have option of ttl or not.

430 is about 2-3 times as much as a new Vivitar. A used vivitar can be had for about $65.
