OK, so I'm in the process of selling my body in order to raise the necessary capital to invest in that dreamy bit of kit, the EOS 20D (most of body now gone...and I almost have enough for the lens cap).

Anyway, I have heard several rumours on the wind about a newer version of the 20D in the offing...is this true? Is this simply referring to the 20Da, or is there going to be an even newer model? If so, does anyone have any idea what the new one will do better than the current one?

Being in the position where I will be living off bread and cheese for some considerable time after buying the 20D (and not your fancy French soft cheese either), it would be more than a little galling to lay out the cash only to get superseded straight away. I know that digi cams are like PC's to a certain extent - buy one and there will always be a better/cheaper one along in the not too distant future, but it would be nice to know if it's really worth waiting or not.

Thank you and bon soir...

If you want it, and can afford it, buy it. If there's another model coming in half a year or a year and you wait for that, you won't be taking pics in the meantime. Also, a new model coming out doesn't mean the pictures of a 20D will get any less.... It's a great machine.

The 20Da is just better at infrared pictures. The IR filter is gone, that's the ONLY difference.

Actually, what they're talking about is a hot filter, which is the opposite of the infrared filter you're thinking of. It eliminates (most of) the infrared light instead of the other way around. It's inside the camera, mounted right in front of the CMOS sensor.
