I have been running EE for over a year now and it is fabulous. I rent webspace from Lycos and they provide the MySQL and PHP and all the other stuff, I just fill out the details in the script.

A friend of mine has just leased a Windows 2003 server and wants to run EE. He has asked me to help him set it up. I have explained that it may well be out of my depth but we will give it a go.

Can any of you give me an “idiots” guide of what I need to install and do on the server to let it run EE.

Thanks in anticipation

It can be done but its not easy.

He will need to install MySQL, PHP, and then ImageMagik and the other image utilities if he wants to use them

I will let Pekka take it from here or anyone else that has done this

I'm running a Windows 2003 server at home.
The easiest way to set it up as a webserver is to go to the SWsoft website (http://www.sw-soft.com/) and download the 'Plesk 7.5 for Windows' package. It is free if for one website and for personal use.
It sets your server up with all the things you need, Apache, IIS, SQL, Mail, FTP, DNS, etc. The only thing you have to download is ImageMagick and install that. But that is just clicking on the executable.

Good luck.
