I'm currently using an Asus EEE pc 1000H. It's got a 10" screen, the atom processor, 1gb ram (upgradeable to 2gb), 160 gb hard drive, wifi, bluetooth, and it runs a loooooong time on battery. I've currently got it set up to dual boot with windows XP home (which it came with) and eeebuntu linux (http://eeebuntu.org/). So far, I'm really liking the eeebuntu, and if I were able to keep this netbook, I'd pull XP off of it completely. Alas, it's a gift for my son, so soon I won't get to use it at all, unless he gets in trouble and has it taken away.
Hmmm... I guess I need to go make up some tougher rules,:D.
Suffice it to say that I'll be trying to figure a way to justify the purchase of another one of these little jewels for myself.

IF you want to use it for photography, I would recommend the new Macbook standard
great little machine now, and powerful enough for photoshop when you add 4gb ram 2.4ghz cpu and big hdd

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention... I got mine with the live.com cash back deal through an ebay store. regular price was $479, and I got 30% cash back, so it ended up costing me $335 plus 15 shipping. Not a mac, but not a thousand dollars, either. :D

I just got an Asus eee pc 1000H recently as well, threw in a 2gb ram stick and this thing is just incredible. there are smaller/lighter netbooks but this 10" screen is about as small as I would recommend really...
running xp....battery life is insane for a latop, 5 hours easily.....

I have the Acer Aspire One. It's a great little netbook but, it's not powerful for any editing I'm afraid. I mainly use it for storage, music, movies, and most importantly for surfing. With carrying my gear and this laptop it's sufficient enough for my needs.

Wait a bit and get one of those :
eMachines computer (http://xtreview.com/addcomment-id-6851-view-Finaly-AMD-answer-to-Intel-Atom.html)
The performance of AMD cpu is pretty similar to Intel atom moreover those notebook are better equipped and a lot cheaper , here we deal with 14.1 inches notebook 2 Gb ram 160 Gb HDD for less than 300 $

And it weighs how much?
The new Netbooks are perfect for the travelling photographer. 1GB RAM, 120MB hard drive and a 9" screen are just about enough for backing-up photos taken during the day and deleting any obvious c*ck-ups. It's even worth the effort of processing the odd one or two real gems to show one's travelling companions. They're also small and light enough to fit in the pocket of the vest I use when travelling.
My order for an Acer Aspire One (XP edition) is going in tomorrow.

Thanks Dow the dual boot sounds good is it a free download and is eeebuntu easy to get apps even the basics like MS Office?

For the most part yes...
Mine runs CS3 and lightroom smoothly. although even with it's 10" screen I really don't recommend getting one of these if you are going to do any kind of serious photo editing. Even a lot of light/quick/easy editing....the screen, while big for a netbook is just too small for it really. especially with lightroom.

Yes eebuntu is free to download. You can look at it here: http://www.eeebuntu.org, as is regular Ubuntu linux: http://www.ubuntu.com/[url].
There are thousands of applications that have been written for the linux operating system. Almost all of therm are open source, and so are free to download and use.
Yes you can run MS office under linux, but it requires that you install a program called WINE. WINE is an application compatability layer that allows you to install and run windows software under Linux. However, this is really outside the subject matter of this thread, so you can go to the ubuntu link above or the WINE webpage [URL]http://www.winehq.org or do a google search to find out more, if you like.
Rather than that, you could go with Open Office http://www.openoffice.org/, which is a very good open source office package, and will open, edit and save MS office files. I use it on my windows computer at home, and we've had no issues with it whatsoever.

Then I also have to mention that it's not the lightest netbook either....The battery is fairly large which is good because it lasts a LONG time but it adds some 'heft'...
When I first got it it was heavier than I had anticipated. Even a coworker said it's 'heavier than it looks'. Not a big deal to me at all but if you are wanting something light to carry with you a lot there are lighter options than the eee pc 1000h

Sorry, much of the weight is the 6-cell battery that comes with it. By "not the lightest netbook", Miyagi-san means that it weighs a tad over three pounds. Not as light as some of the others, but not heavy either. Considering the display size, hard drive capacity, and long running time, I'd consider it a decent trade-off, especially when you take into account that a standard size laptop with a 14-15 inch screen weighs over six pounds, on average.
