since I can't see RAW image if I am just using my canon cable, nor move any .jpg, I had to copy it to my computer than delete it from the card, if I opened in canon EOSviewer, I can see the RAW but not modify or transfer it, but if I use my card reader, everything will be fine. any other way around this?

Hmm.
I'm not sure what you are doing exactly.
Can you not just open the camera like an 'external disk drive' (shows in the 'my computer' view on Windows XP) on your PC if it is connected via the cable?
That way, I can copy any file from the camera to the PC.
Best regards,
Andy

I can see raw in my camera through my canon supplied software. Ususally mount the disk and import thru PSCS however.

Your computer may be set up in a really goofy way that so that "unregistered" file types are invisible.
This might explain why you can not "see" the raw files.

I have a similar issue. If I hook my camera directly to my laptop, I can only see the JPG files in Photoshop Elements 3, but if I use my card reader instead, both the RAW and JPG files show in PSE3.

Odd....I have not had this problem and have always used the supplied cable to upload from the camera to my computer. I just hook in the cable, turn the camera on and all the files (RAW included) transfer into "My pictures" in my documents...from there I open them in CS. If I wish they also viewable in Zoombrowser and fileviewer......and this is the way it presented itself from the start, I have not changed anything on my computer to do this.

In my case, I suppose some of the problem could be that I haven't installed any of the Canon supplied software, preferring to use PSE3 instead. Still doesn't make sense that RAW files are recognized from the card reader, but not the camera.

yep for some reason if you tried to grab the .cr2 from your 20d directly with Windows, it can't see it. If you use EOS Viewer or DPP it is fine. However if you stick your card in a memory card reader, windows sees it. Strange Strange Strange

This is happening because XP is seeing the camera as a camera or imaging device, not as a disk drive. As such, it only recognizes common image formats. When you use a card reader, you're using a regular drive, so any file out there will show up.

Makes sense to me. Do you know of a way to associate the CR2 files with a camera or is it necessary to get XP to recognize the camera as a disk drive?

I always use a card reader. You'd have to find the magic program to associate the CR2 extension with; maybe scoot over to a JPG or GIF and see what they associate with by default for open and edit? I don'tr mind spelunking the registry, but I'm not that much into it.

Not sure that would do it because PSE3 opens the CR2 files just fine when I use the card reader. It hasn't become enough of a PITA to make me put a lot of time into figuring it out yet. :D
