I'm an absolut newbie in the SLR game, just considering buing a 350D any time soon. Further I'm a golf fanatic, and this is where my curiosity got the better of me.

Those prof. sport photografers have some amazing lenses. I've not been able to find anything on Canon website about these.
Is it just me or do the majority of sports photographers use Canon?

My question to the forum - where can I find more info. about these prof. lenses. And where would you buy these? (Again, just out of curiosity :-)

The big white lenses you see in such proliferation at sporting events are mostly Canon lenses. A couple other manufacturers have made white lenses, but mostly they're Canon.

For the most part, those are what we call the big primes---telephoto lenses of fixed focal length. Typically they are 300mm and longer, and start at just under $4,000 and run up to over $7,000.00

Hmm ... maybe your closest bet that is still in the 'affordable' category would be the Canon 100-400 L IS lens ... around 1400 $ and an incredible lens with a great reach if you use it in good lighting conditions (daytime).
