I visited a restored ranch house down south this weekend past . . . it looked like home to me. However the furnishings were of the early 40's and before so they had this old record player setup, I would have just loved to have 'turned it on' and let the old songs once more fill the living room, pushed back the table, chairs and center rug . . . asked the lovely lady of the house to dance with me . . .

I was trying out the fill flash functions and needed dark and mixed lighting conditions to challenge the camera. I hope to be able to work up several from this setting to share.

I guess I should not be ashamed to admit that I have only used flash for 'family pictures' you know the kind . . . arms at side and everyone looking straight ahead. So IanBMW help me here if you can, you have to shoot to learn and it is here I come for the latter. Can or would you tell me or show me your thoughts on how it should look? I was happy to not get 'blown' out as I have so often in the past . . .

it's a really really nice clear shot
and the 'sounds' (in your mind) sound lovely from what you describe RJ
(the dancing etc)

if you are there again maybe take a picture of it with natural light coming through a window (on the side ) if possible
http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_confused.gif take a lot of different shots..maybe moving the gramophone around
and go for the light on the needle and the record more so

that's if does the whole lot does not disintegrate first

Thank you Marie . . . I guess I am just a tecno geek. I love the voice coil or whatever it is. I can hear the record skip . . . as it waits to be replayed or turned off for the evening. The window is letting in light over the top of it so I used the uplifted lid for 'shade.' I might have to go back and try this again someday. I will use your kind suggestions.

that's gorgeous RJ

thanks for showing it.

as a very very young child I used sit on a shelf at home and listen to the 'skater's waltz' over and over on something like it
I couldn't quite reach it but when I climbed onto the 'shelf' I could.

must have been when everyone was out:lol:
but I played it over and over and over and over and over
(like I am saying that now )
to this day I love that music
thanks
