Played around at a soccer game today. Other than trying to keep the sun at my back (which I clearly didn't do in this shot), what are some tips for shooting in bright sunlight....thanks in advance for some help.

A bit on the wide side but good anticipation by you.

Not so much by the guy who's right on top of the action (unless he's looking through the viewfinder with his right ear...)

I actually talked to him after the game....this is NCAA Div. III and he is the university photog. The game went into overtime and the white team (that he shoots for) scored a goal about 5 minutes in. I have about an 8 shot burst of the winning goal.....he missed the play. He wants me to send him some shots of the goal......here comes my 15 minutes of fame...lol.

Shooting in bright light: make sure you use a lens hood and make sure your exposure is set properly. Also, go as low as you can on the ASA. Otherwise, try to avoid pointing in to the sun. Sometimes if there are a lot of reflections or glare, a polarizing filter can help.

I shot a lot of soccer in the sun last season. At your back is the biggest. Otherwise, step up your speed a bit, unless you want to keep some blur on things like the ball. I always put the iso as low as I could. Sometimes you just have to deal with it and play with exposure in photoshop afterwards.
Have you considered cropping it in closer?

Hey neighbor! Nice capture! Cropped a bit more will give more attention. What teams are these?

Nice capture, well done. You should crop the right hand side and get rid of the bloke in the background. You could also try and crop the 3 players on the ball in portrait and maybe you will have extra photo.
Feels great to get a capture that the pros missed, carry on the good work.

maybe something like this, but you would get a better result because you have the original file.

Agreed.
Also what is with the netting around the field? Don't think I have seen this at any soccer fields here.

The netting is to protect the soccer players from the golf course next to the field.
