Hi

I have posted 3 threads on motorsport photo pages and others on this page , plenty of views , but no comments, am I doing something wrong, any advise on how to get responses would be good as new to site and beginning to think I am wasting my time!!
thanks

I would not say that you are wasting your time. There are a lot of threads in the share forums that do not get comments. It is nothing personal. Just keep sharing and reading.

Wasting your time? No, but remember this is a community and it is a two way street so you get back what you put into it.

At the time I've written this you've made 10 posts. Three were with attached photos from the same event, five were requests for information, one was a "thank you" to Jamie (for answering one of your questions) and one was in this thread. You want people to comment and advise on your photos but you've yet to post so much as a "nice photo" on anyone else's work.

If you want people to make the effort and give of their time and knowledge to help you, you also need to give something back.

Thanks Glen, but as a complete beginner, I dont feel I am qualified yet to comment on others work, until I have something to offer. that is why I havnt commented

You should be able to feel free to comment - none of us are perfect, and all of us are on a continual learning curve.
I occasionally reply to threads that aren't necessarily in my 'field' and probably not qualified to be critical, but if I see a pic that gives me "Wow" then I'll comment.

Also, just take a look at how many people are on this forum at one time - new posts one minute, can be history in less than 5 minutes & lost in the newer posts.

Don't give up!!

Bill you can comment on anything. I do. Trust me to tell you there are lots of thing I am not proficiant in. But when I see something I like, I say so. Comments don't have to be "negative" they can simply be: "I like that", "nice ones", "nice set", "I like the compostion". Or comments can be questions: "how did you get that shot?", "what corner did you shoot that from?"

See what I mean? POTN is a great place to learn. And trust me when I tell you that if you don't comment and ask question (no matter how stupid you think they are) then your not going to learn. Hardly anyone around here bites (well ignore my avatar for a minute). You'll get good info and bad info, just wade through it and develope your skills and style.

You'd only be wasting your time if you give up before you've really started.

Patience you must have, many good things you will learn </Yoda> ;)

You don't need to be an expert to know whether you like a photo or not! Any perspective on photos people take are useful and besides, I don't take my photos to impress other motorsport photographers, I take them to impress (and sell to) drivers, race teams and the wider public. I've found from experience that "other photographers" don't buy many photos ;)

Birdie, I too am new to the site but not new to the forums and communities. I personally tend to read a ton before making any comments but like Jamie said it best with his comment. I am usually lurking on these forums late at night or for quite a few hours into the early morning part of the weekends since going to work on the weekends is not in my vocabulary.....lol

Either way, it is fun and amazing to see some of the members pictures, never take anything personal (Well I really don't) but take it as constructive criticism. LOL, I am still trying to figure out how to re-size my pic so I can post some of them up. I will learn young jedi I am.....gotta love YoDA!

I have impressed some other motorsport photographers with my pictures, and I have sold one picture to another photographer... it was a shot of himself running from trophy truck that jumped the k-rail he was standing behind.
