I'm going to the Outer Banks (Hatteras Island, specifically) from Nov 1-12, to visit my family. I have been there many times, but never in November. Does anyone know of any great spots to take pictures that are "off the beaten path". I will have a 4WD SUV and plenty of time to venture out. And I'll try to get a little fishing in at the point while I'm there as well. :D

The downside to Cape Hatteras is the lighthouse. It has been moved to more secure location due to it's foundation crumbling from underneath. I'm sure you will get some great shots from any location near the beaches. I would recommend trying for a great sunrise and check out any sand dunes near by. Bundle up! It's gonna be cold.

November is a great time to go to the Outer Banks - Have fun!
Oregon Inlet with a east or northeast wind is an awesome sight - and is our version of the conditions you get in the PNW. Striped bass season will be starting around that time so there should be plenty of boat traffic.
Ocrakoke -- Great time of year to actually get some photos without 10K people in them and the beaches here are the best in NC IMHO.
Portsmouth Island -- my favorite place to go and certainly off the beaten path. Plus in November the bugs wont carry you away!
Stumpy Point area -- Great old fishing towns in these areas.
Lake Mattamuskeet - also birds, old fishing town etc.
Alligator River -- November is excellent for birding/wildlife.
Bridges all over the place! Heck you are going to photgraphy heaven -- Have fun.
