Well I thought if they all posted in 1 thread the rest of potn would be safe.

Have we become such a moaning society. We expect so much and jump up and down and throw toys out of the cot when we dont get our way.

Can't use spell checker
Shallow egos, "your camera takes good pictures" hurts my feelings
Carping about what others spend on gear, they don't need it

'nuff for now.

This thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=24778) was one of my first rants, and the only one I have started I think, from February 2004. By and large it still applies.

I don't know a computer that doesn't have a spell checker, no matter what language you are native to.

If I see one more, "How do I watermark my images"......

I'm done.:D:D

Just thought of another one, using the word "Professional" when it is not applicable

IMHO, to call yourself a professional, one must have all of the following credentials:
A formal training or educational background in a particular field of study.
Have continual, on-going, formalized educational in that field of study.
Be a member of that "field of study group" that is either self or state regulated.

Now I realize that in today's dumbed down world of the academically inert that definition doesn't often apply.
Ego maintenance has become a higher priority than has traditional accuracy.

I'm done now and am ducking for cover.

PS-how do I watermark my images?

ssim
28th of October 2008 (Tue), 10:56
Wow, if we used the definition of your "Professional" it would eliminate the majority of people, even those of us that make our living doing this. Mind you when someone asks me what I do for a living I say "photographer" and never add the word professional in to it. There have been many a thread where the OP wanted to be able to call himself a pro. Hell, go ahead. Who does it matter to.

Now come on over here so I slap you up the side of the head for that watermarking comment.:D:D:D

Any post or thread that deliberately belittles or degrades a member here.
Whether it be because of spelling/grammar issues, gear choices, lack of tact, posting style, whatever.

I mean, if you must rant, rant about the fact that it rained over the weekend and ruined your shoot.
Rant about the fact that you've just dropped your camera in the ocean.
Rant about the fact that you just shot a wedding in not so comfortable shoes.

But don't rant about people just because they aren't who you think they should be.

How many state capitals does Wisconsin have? Do they move them regularly?

Nah, there's just the one. It was moved a long time ago but the original buildings still stand. CLICK (http://www.belmontwi.com/pages/1/index.htm)

It's a nice area. Lots of farmland but the Belmont mound has some interesting rock formations.

5?.

I would say that it all depends on the photograph! one photograph of the right thing could make you thousands! so the right 1 photo could earn you several L's the problem is finding that one shot :(

on the other hand, I have thousands of shots that are worthless... because nobody will pay me for them :(

Begin RANT

People I think generally post there frustrations. Something bugs them and they need to get it off their chest. We come alone and read it and either agree or disagree, this can often lead into a war, when they just wanted to vent.

I like getting things that bug me off my chest.

Maybe before we react to peoples posts because we disagree we should ask are they just venting their frustrations

or

they could just be full of hot air

[1] I never watch MTV. They don't cater to my age bracket (two days older than dirt). Not even once have I seen them play a minuet video, or even one of them new-fangled Straus waltzes!

[2] Most of the students have allowances bigger than the teachers' paychecks. And the students don't have to buy their own cars, or pay for insurance, gas, groceries, rent, etc.

I came close, but with a little patience and some disassembly, I was able to get it working. Apparently the batteries weren't making good contact. Once I used some fine sandpaper on the contacts, it's now working again.

Shhh!! Calm down and use your inside voice!

Still, if you must shout to get it out of your system, better us than your spouse, who would probably make you regret it.

As the guy said, "If I did (whatever), my wife would kill me!"

OK, turns out I have a rant after all....

Why are we limited to a total of 100 PM's? I mean, the cost of storage isn't that much.... At least bump it up a few hundred.

20droger
30th of October 2008 (Thu), 18:43
I think a better question is, why do you need even 100? Do a little housekeeping and delete them after they have served their purpose.

Yes, storage is cheap, for each person! But POTN has how many members? And if every one wanted space for, say, 500 PMs, that would require how much storage?

mattograph, I was being polite. But, since that seems to be undesirable (at least to you)...

My rant is about lazy people who have unreasonable expectations and act like Pekka is a servant, not a benefactor.

Now, is that any better? I think not, but it does say the same thing.

Perhaps I should rant about people who rant about someone being logical.... Nah! That would itself be logical.

And weka2000, the questions were rhetorical. I know how many members there are.

Don't care! It's my rant and I'm sticking to it.... :) This is the rant thread, isn't it?

How much space do you think a PM takes? 1k maybe? I doubt 168,622 people have 100 PM's each. Even so, a terrabyte drive can be bought for $150.00 so the cost of storage really doesn't make that good an arguement.
