I have a small business insurance policy, I had to get it. With the traveling I am doing and having people actually working for me and with my equipment, it just became a necessity. And the Smithsonians require liability that is more than just a rider on our homeowners policy. So I pay $500 a year for my insurance but it covers up to 8 employees and other things. I may change carriers, though to cut costs, but I feel much better traveling with the new gear when it's clearly insured. I did this 3 years ago when I got my first museum assignment. Now I am ready to go anywhere. People like to see the policy before working with photographers here.

Glad your lenses were okay, Maureen. Which ones are you going to bring. I only carry the 17-40, 70-200 2.8 IS with me while the 5D has the 24-70 attached. I take filters for outdoor shots and a lot of CF cards. That's about it. So, I travel lighter. I may leave the tele at home, though if we do a lot of walking.

It is on my To-Do list today, Jim.

Our homeowner's policy covers all of my camera gear automatically. We pay an extra 17/year so there is no deductible. Check your homeowner's policy to see if things are covered. I know there are issues when it comes to what the equipment is used for though.

I'm headed out to the hospital today. My wife's paternal grandmother is in the hospital for colon cancer. It was just discovered in the last week or so and she'll undergo surgery tomorrow, so I thought it'd be nice for her to see her great granddaughter before. I'm also printing out some of the photos I've taken recently for her to have in her room as the recovery is expected to be 2 weeks in the hospital.

Hey Chris, I've always thought that we needed more insurance because once we start shooting as pro's then our homeowners is not going to cover. Maybe it was an Ohio thing.

I have business insurance. It covers me, my stuff, liability It's well worth it. Probably the only insurance that I think is!

So I was wrong, it's a 3G, not a 2.0 (I have the 2.0 in Nikon Mount). It will include the standard aperture kit plus bag - the box is no longer there. $160 + shipping.

I don't know about that though. Once I'm finished with the cabinets. I then have to tile the countertop, put HW flooring, install recessed lighting. paint the ceiling, walls and trim. After that I have to paint all the other rooms in the house.

Michael, we buy oak and refinish it ourselves and around here, no one does bulk anything besides costco! :-)

So here is a fact about the new Safari 4 beta and POTN

Last night I ticked the quote button on someone's thread, but forgot to respond and went to sleep...all day today as I go to respond in that thread I get that quote, can't figure it out and the page wont' advance to the new posts.

It holds you on that page, where you clicked on the quote till you either use it ( I was not going to) or find it and unclick it.

WOW!

Suzie, I am thinking about bringing my 50D with the 135 on it and for sure the 5D with the 24-105. When I went to Italy I just took the 5D with my Tamron 28-75 (didn't have the 24-105 yet) and it was enough.

Jeff - our best wishes to Natalie and Jacob . . .

and Chris is having an auction. I wonder if we're breaking any marketplace rules? Tom, Jon, we need help here? Not that I can see . . . He didn't actually come out and ask for buyers; more expressed the opinion that he'd have to sell some stuff off - sounds like a "feeler" to me, and those aren't allowed in Marketplace.

No problem as far as I know. I've sold things that I only mentioned in the Tupperware thread. I'd much rather deal with people I know, or at least feel I know.So far, nothing I've bought here has been listed in Marketplace. and 60% of it has been from other Mods. And same reasoning applies here.

Wow Jeff!!! Hope everything goes smoothly :) Keep us posted!

We had a heartstopping moment today. Skip opened my pelican case to get something and forgot to latch it shut. When we got home, he pulled it out of he car and all my lenses fell onto the cement driveway!!!!! The 70-200, the 24-105, the 50/1.4 and gasp, my beloved 85/1.2!

Fortunately, I tried them all out and it appears no damage was done. Thank goodness i had all the hoods on over the lens bodies!Wow - how close you came to being a widow . . . No jury of your peers (photographers) would convict! :{)#

Probably the only insurance that I think is!If you start making real money (a significant part of your income) I think they want you to get pro insurance. What the exact threshold is will vary from company to company. But if you've got a business license, you'd better get the pro coverage.

Thank you all very much! It was pretty expected Suzie - after yesterday I knew he was coming within a day or two. He's precious. They have a feeding tube in him right now because he didnt take to nursing yet, and it is the least invasive for him. In another week or two, I am sure he will be able to suck and breathe so he can eat.

This is a cool feeling. I am really proud of Natalie. She did a super job and made a gorgeous baby.

I think he may be in here for a week or so. But he may surprise us as he did with his presence! I'm super happy he is doing well. And even better, he came early and is doing well :)

Good morning/afternoon everybody. Jacob is now in our room with us, sleeping with mommy right now. The nurse brought him in and said that overnight he really proved himself and could be with us from now on with monitoring only at feedings just to make sure his oxygen levels are good. He's such a champ. We are very blessed and I know all the prayers that were being sent yesterday really helped.

Here is another quick blackberry photo of him. I will get better ones soon enough. I am sure he is thankful I am sparing him right now hahaha. I want to get some good ones, but he and mommy are resting. It's so cute.

I guess I phrased it wrong, I'd not love the destruction...I've been through a tornado before in Ohio (Niles Ohio in 85, I forgot about that) and I guess I respect them more then anything and the awesomeness of the power that they have. I will probably one day chase a tornado if I don't see one here myself. The power of the earth is an amazing thing.

I don't awe the destruction or the damnation it brings.

Yeah we are going to start him off in the crib from the get go. He is doing so good. Last night was our first night with him, and he did very well. The nurse said they are going to do at least one nipple feed a day to see how that goes. He's just too young to breastfeed and needs to grow a bit and develop them sucker muscles. :) He lost .3oz yesterday so he is really doing quite well with maintaining weight. He should start putting it on after today.

I went through a CAT 4 Typhoon in Vietnam (Cam Rahn Bay) in 1970. The eye went right over us. It was an awesome thing to behold but we had massive destruction and four deaths. I don't think I ever want that experience again.

However, in my next life I am torn between being a Paleontologist (geology has always been my first love) or a Storm Chaser :) I watch the Storm Chasers on the Discovery Channel and drool with envy!

Our last son's photographs got lost after we paid for them. So we did a reshoot and they came out terrible. Why can't they just hire us to do such things. I'd go in once a week to do them. :)

And I've been through some major hurricanes here in VA. Yes, we've had some. But I think the worse weather events here are rains after snow storms. The thaw and melt can cause major flooding.

NO KIDDING! They did the courtesy shots of our kids for the hospital website and they looked horrible. I was almost going to tell them not to post the pics, but I choose not to give out the url of the pictures and just post my own.

Having spent part of my childhood living in the Philippines, and going through many typhoons, I can honestly say that you would not love it!

Having spent a later part of my childhood living in Colorado (military family, if you haven't guessed yet, lol), and watching a neighboring town get nailed by a tornado, I can honestly say that you wouldn't want to chase one once you saw it...

And if you want to take it a little further, while I was living in the Philippines, I also felt the wrath of earthquakes... you don't want to go through that either. But luckily, we left the Philippines just before Mt. Pinatubo erupted, so I didn't get to experience a volcano yet... lol...

;)

I shot all my kids in the hospital. and my grandson. I'm not sure who they hire, even here with senior pictures it's done at the school with a blue motted screen. It's stupid and they won't let anyone advertise in the schools, I have 2 years to get seniors to get out and get some awesome pictures taken...My son is a sophomore right now, so we will see what happens...

I don't think they are pretty, I think they are powerful! I am sure I would photograph one if I saw it.

I guess it's just me, I sit outside during heavy storms, I'm amazed at the power and possible the threat.

I can't explain it. There is nothing you can do when a storm is coming, but prepare and hide or watch. I'd be a watcher until it was no longer safe (I'd probably push the button on that also).

Hi, Leesa. Are we getting that storm Saturday?

James, welcome back. Life does happen. It's all good.

Hey Suzy, just saw this as I went back up to read what others wrote...I have NO idea, I'm in Missouri now, we had a nice line of storms go through last night with possibility of hail...but it was just a bunch of lightening and wind.

YES! I felt like I was digging myself out of a well....I signed up to do storm chasing in Ohio but never did the training. Not sure about here...too many people I think here do chase them. More reason to watch for them here, then in Ohio.

Once you get the bug, you're hooked. One of my earliest memories (and we're going back a looooong way) was Dad taking me to the scene of a big derailment in Pomona,CA. I was maybe 3 years old. I don't remember many of the details, but I know I was always fascinated with trains forever more.

Tom & Jeff,

I agree. My Dad was an engineer for Southern Railroad. When I was 7 years old (1951) I got to ride in the cab of a "pufferbelly" from Atlanta to Birmingham and help the fireman shovel coal...I will always remember the "butterfly" doors to the boiler firebox...you stepped on a foot lever to open them to shovel in the coal :)

Suzie,

In PSE 6.0 there is a box for width and height displayed at the top of the screen whenever the crop tool is selected. Just enter your dimensions and you should be set. Either 4x6 or 6x4 depending on portrait or landscape crop.

I think I will go with the 15 inch only because of carrying it back and forth in the airport

Well I absolutely love my MacBook Pro, it is the early 2008 model, I bought it the day after the new ones came out, that way mine was on clearance. I have the 2.5(mid model) 15" Matte version, and I added 4GB of ram to it (never pay apple to do this, it is way easy, and they charge way too much) I got it all for $1599.

If it was me, I would go refurbished for sure, but these models are known to have a few graphics card issues, so applecare would be a good idea. I am not too worried about it though, if is gets messed up I have applecare haha.

This is my first Mac and I love it!

Jason and I went over to the Manassas Battlefield National Park afterwards to do some landscape photography. That didn't last very long: it was 37 degrees, damp, and very windy. After 15 minutes my hands were numb...so we gave it up and headed home.

I'm off to meet Jim, but I only have to drive 25 minutes instead of 45. It will be fun to see him and Elaine. We enjoy time together a lot. Jim is the nicest person I've ever shot with as a partner. He never complains and is constantly complimenting my work. Makes me get a big head. Jon is my favorite POTN friend who always buys stuff before me and makes me crazy. Oh, Dave does that, too but he's in UT.

Leesa, your grandbaby is so cute! Nice shot. Boys are cute, too.

Maureen, make sure you save some of that hard earned money so you can spend a little bit here. :)

I wonder if Jeff got any sleep last night? ;)

I have the blackberry also, we were waiting to see what was going to happen with the Verizon/Alltel merge, seems they are going to stay two separate companies...My contract has two months on it, but I am a rewards memeber at Best buy and I have a 20 dollar off coupon and a 25 dollar GC, SO...I'll be betting that phone for around 40 dollars! Yeah

break from photography? NEVER!! ;)

rest of the shots (well some) can be seen here > http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=654158

But Bob, don't you know that I am living the dream, I am a full time photographer and a full time teacher, other than that, I have NO life! lol

Seriously, I'm not really complaining, I love photography and am very lucky to be able to have it as a career, but.......in the last 9 months I have had about 3 whole days off.....Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day. If photography was my only job it would be much easier. As it is, for 10 months out of the year every day I have something photography related to do, either shooting, processing, ordering, delivering, packaging, or making appointments, making phone calls, or emailing clients, blogging and web site upkeep and then there's also all the bookkeeping and financial stuff to deal with + I have to go do my real job. There is so much more to this business than just getting the shots. And since I am carrying on, I might as well also add in there's cooking, house cleaning, laundry, yardwork, grocery shopping, blah, blah, blah...NO WONDER I'm always so tired.:p And once in awhile I have to sleep.

AND BY THE WAY.....I took time to go comment on the motorsport pics!

So now if I just hired Bob to do all my PP and editing work, I would be able to watch a movie once in awhile!:D:p;)

Okay back from picking up a few things and

GOING TO GET AN IPHONE TONIGHT

yeah yeah yeah!!!! I won't get it turned on till my contract is over with Alltel, but I'll have it.

Got a great deal at best buy!!!

I'll be interested in hearing how you like it. I generally like mine, although I am still fairly clumsy at touch pad typing. I suspect my fingers are just a little too chubby for the task (and uncoordinated).

You will LOVE it! I really love mine, and it takes a few days to get used to typing on the iphone, but once you do, it is better than texting on anything else, it is great! You just have to remember that you do not have to hit the correct letter or you will get frustrated, just hit the right area and trust the phone, and most of the time it will figure out what you are trying to type.
