Lois got up in the middle of the night (worries), and turned on the TV. That woke me up, so I'm wishing I could go back to bed, but it would be futile.

Sorry I haven't been around much, either. I've been working on our continuing education to renew our real estate licenses, and DANG, those test questions are tricky. Lot's of double-negatives and weird phrasing of questions.
I finished it late last night, and should have it out in the mail today.

Good Luck with that.
Fortunately, not a lot of luck is required. It's just a matter of sitting down, parsing the question completely, then going to the book and looking up the answer. It's open-book, and the answer is usually in there verbatim, but it's a slow, tedious process. It doesn't test knowledge of concepts----only the ability to use resource material.
It's just a nuisance.

If it just tests your ability to look up resource info, why take the test?

This has been a horrid day. We thought the cats had been peeing on the carpet around the fish tank...well, it turns out that the filter on the fish tank was leaking. I have no idea of how long this has been going on. I picked up a 10 gallon tank to house the fish in the meantime and emptied the 55 gallon tank, moved the stand (and tank), and then tried to clean the carpet. I have no idea if this is going to work or not. We may have to replace the carpet on the first floor. Yay. It's not more than 200 square feet, fortunately.
On the up side, someone asked me to shoot their wedding last night (for pay). Sadly, I already have a gig second shooting that weekend, and I doubt I'm ready to do it on my own just yet.

I got a look at next year's price list for the woman I work for. Starting package is 3500 and goes up from there. She's targeting a different clientele than previously (when we booked her, it was ~1700 for the base package), she's tired of working 60-70 weddings a year and is tired of being hit on by the groomsmen.

Don't ask me, Brooke, Jim & I are free. :) But if I did charge, $2000 at least to start. In UT, there is a lady in SLC that is charging $650 for everything, so just to let you know, look on the net at local charges.

I survived my work week, barely! whew, it was grueling. I really hate it when I have five men as patients.;) One screamed and cried like a two year old everytime we tried to move him in bed....they guy was like, 46 years old and by the end of the night, we all wanted to spank him:evil:
Another guy was so rude and sarcastic to the staff that I finally lit into him last night and gave him a good scolding. He wanted to be left alone to sleep both nights I had him so I finally told him that he made a wrong turn......and that the Holiday Inn Express was across the street! Sheesh. Don't people realize they come into the hospital to be cared for after major surgery and that the nurses are there to follow the dr.'s orders to give that care? I could go on a tirade but I'll be done now.......;)

I'm catching up on all the neglected processing and blogging, wow I am seriously way behind!
I am having a wonderful slow day, it's so nice to just relax a bit. No shoots until 4:00 this afternoon.:D
Hope everyone is having a great day!

On the 85MM f/1.2...I have read two reviews that say don't buy it if you already have the 85MM f/1.8 unless, of course, you just want it :D [edit] I want it!

My boss has the f/1.2 and I have the f/1.8 flavors. I will say that if there is one lens that she uses more often than anything else, it's the 85. I've shot with both and I personally LOVE the f/1.2. I have a sharp copy of the 1.8 and really like it, but the 1.2 does seem, to me, to be in a league of it's own.

LOL, Kathy.
But this photo is not for comment. I wanted to show Jim my 85/1.2 on the 5D. Jim, this was taken in front of a big window and only cropped for your close-up viewing. I wanted you to see this to help you make up your mind about your lens purchase.
Or does this only create turmoil? LOL!

It is a fantastic lens and worth every nickel for portrait work. I don't have to work hard to get good photos as long as I remember to get my settings right.
By the way, Sophie is the Baby Who Will Not Smile. My sister was doing all kinds of antics to no avail. We finally, after a good hour, threw up our hands ands and said "No grown woman should have to behave like to get a baby to smile." As soon as the lens cap was on, the smiles came in abundance.

Mo,
Thanks for posting 85/135 photos...insanely sharp and thin DoF. The 85MM f/1.2 is indeed a fantastic lens :D I can get it for 25% off by cashing in my AMEX Rewards points. How difficult of a learning curve did you have to master the 85MM f/1.2?
I have the 135MM f/2 EF L but I really haven't tried it with the 5D yet.
Sunday I am doing a 80th Birthday party for a good friend. It is her Mom's 80th birthday...she is having a sit down dinner for 120 guests...including Elaine and myself.
I plan to do formal portraits of Mom with the 5D and the 85MM f/1.8. I'll take the 135MM along and give it a try as well.

You may find that 135 is just the ticket....
For some reason, I had no learning curve with my 85. I think I knew it was meant for me long before I bought it. It would be the last lens standing in my case if I had to get rid of some of them.

Jim .. 25% off is enough reason to get the 85L .. i just recently acquired it and i LOVE it .. haven't used it for a shoot, but tested around the house and its totally wonderful ! BUT !!!! if the sources are correct, the rebates starts sunday ! so i would wait it till then ..
well, to me .. if this lens acts like the Nikon 85 1.4 ( the cream machine ) it may take some getting used to, unless you dont plan on shooting at 1.2 lol .. or maybe it was the excitement that cuz me to forget the Narrow DOF shooting that wide .. cuz one eye is in focus and the other .. well you know lol

Thanks Jim, I'll share that with my husband, he's in charge of those kind of jobs. That particular part of the roof is pretty steep and the attic above that area is pretty much just nasty spidery crawlspace, no place a lady needs to be! lol
My shoots went very well. One of the moms is a girl I have known since she was a toddler and now she has a baby of her own. She and her husband both have Harleys so they brought those along and also had a few family shots taken. I think I got some really cool shots! Importing in a few minutes.

Mo, congrats! I am now back to the lowest weight I've been in about 3 years. So, I'm getting there. Did a charity car wash for 4 hours yesterday, and then shopped until I dropped to get ice cream for the boys. They were pretty tired after spreading out about 3/4 of the mulch I ordered. I'll put up some pictures when the rain quits. From a week of 90 degree sunshine to 2 weeks of 50-70 degree rainy weather, my trees and flowers are confused, but happy. French drain is working great. The grass seeds sprouted and my husband's one iris is going to bloom for the first time in about 7 years. Can't wait!
Morning all!

A small thing, but a big deal to me......
A couple years ago, I took my wedding ring off because my fingers were particularly puffy that day. I gave it to Lois for 'safe keeping,' and somehow, it disappeared. This is very unusual as she is always impeccably organized, and rarely loses anything.
We went for a long time without it figuring it would eventually show up. It didn't. So I walked into a jewelry store when we were in Las Vegas last Thursday, and bought one. When I told Lois what I had done, that it was indeed important to me, that being married to her was probably the finest thing that has happened in my life, and a ring was evidence of my devotion to her, she got all weepy.
Funny how things work. I hadn't said anything because I didn't want her to feel bad about losing it. She though I wasn't saying anything because it didn't matter to me.
Sure glad we got all that straightened out.

Awwwwww, that is so sweet!!
Reminds of some years back (a lot of years back) when my whole family was coming for Christmas and our house was going to be stuffed with people. Our 10th wedding anniversary was also coming up on Jan. 5th so on Christmas morning, I found a small extra stocking hanging on the fireplace. I didn't notice that everyone stopped what they were doing when I saw it was for me and started to open it. Inside was a good sized black box and I immediately thought it was a new watch. To my BIG surprise it was a diamond anniversary band! Well, at that point in time we really didn't have much extra money but there was my hubby beside me telling me that after 10 years, he would marry me all over again! Boy, did I get 'all weepy'.

Okay I'll share too, although my story is not near as "pretty" as Tom's or Mo's......
Years ago we had a terrible flood here in our town and while our home was not threatened, many of our friends and community members lost everything. We both went out and helped everywhere we could. One of the people I helped was an elderly couple whose mobil home was completely surrounded by water and inside had 2 feet deep and rising. After my husband and another man got the couple out and to dry land, the lady was crying in fear that the pet cats wouldn't swim to safety. So I went back and got the cats. Some wonderful person:rolleyes: took a picture of me wading back through the muck in my soaked clothes with a cat clung to each side of me (I have battle scars from this one, lol). They gave my husband a print of the shot and for our next anniversary he wanted to take me out. When I got into his pickup, there stuck to the dash was a laminated copy of the picture and on it he had written..."My Hero, My Wife, My Love, My Life" I was a weeping mess. That picture still remains on the dashboard of whatever he drives, even 3 new pickups later! He says when things get bad all he has to do is look at that picture and know that nothing is bad as long as I'm by his side! I think he kinda likes me.:D

Tom, Mo, Kathy...
You guys are all blessed with loving spouses. I have a similar tale with Elaine. We eloped at age 20 when we were poor starving college kids. I bought her a "diamond chip" enagement ring as it was all I could afford at the time. She wore it proudly for 40 years. Our anniversary is on the 17th of FEB. As it turned out, we had a Spring Valentine party for our company on the 14th of FEB...3 days before our 40th Anniversary. Unbeknowst to her I had bought her a 3 diamond Anniversary ring for our 40th...I saved for two years to buy her this equal to the 200MM f/2.0 EF L IS! At the party I got up welcome my 50+ guests and at the end of my remarks I asked Elaine to come up and join me. When she did, I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me and gave her the ring. Lots of tears, lots of happiness, and not a dry eye in the room...including me. The ring has not left her finger since that night. I love that woman more than life.

Kristin! Great to see you again, I've missed you!
Yeah, Tom got us started on the love stories this morning, and I have been telling myself all day that sometimes gifts come from completely unexpected places......After the day we have had here, mainly cleaning up our property with several burn piles going......I had many instances to pick a fight with my husband and I held back and remembered the thoughts from here this morning.
So thanks Tom, you may have saved me from a prison sentence! I saved a huge bag of assorted wild flower seeds that I painstakingly collected last year so I could scatter them in my flower gardens. I had that chore planned for later this afternoon......Welllllllllllll....now I don't need to bother because my dear sweet husband THREW THEM IN THE FIRE:mad: He thought they were garbage!
So that said, back to Kristin now. I looked at your blog and I was loving what I saw! The weddings are beautiful and Sophie is adorable, you did GREAT work. I really love your processing! What are you doing to get the look you have in the ones of Sophie? I love their "lightness".

These are all wonderful stories, and I think a lot of people would benefit from reading this. I see such selfish, self-centered people complaining about their marriages because they're only worried about what's in it for them. Is it any wonder so few people stay married these days?

Another great story! I have been caught several times now sitting at the computer with wet eyes! I keep telling my son I have allergies LOL:D

In January 2012, if there's still breath in my body, I want to renew our vows. I figure by then my memory will be such that it will serve as a nice reminder.

I know and he means well but doggone it!
Last year he was helpful and mowed the yard for me and mistakenly mowed down all my yet to bloom Shasta Daisys. I was standing there looking at the stubs that were left and started to cry like a fool, he saw me, jumped off the mower and ran up to me thinking I was hurt. I didn't behave very nicely to him, in fact you might say I was down right pissed off royally! I felt like such a big jerk after I yelled at him and pouted for hours, but I really felt like a big jerk and fool when within a month the daisys were all grown back out and twice as thick as before he mowed them! We laugh about it now!

I will be there, Tom. Just give me the date. :) I shoot a lot of events each year, and I travel to do it.
Jim, just to let you know. It's so rainy tomorrow, I'm trying to get Ben & Sarah to reschedule. It's too dark for good lighting if it's going to rain 2 inches tomorrow.

Hi Suzie :) Makes sense to me. We are in for a stormy week this week. Elaine and I are leaving for Chicago on Thursday AM and will return on the following Monday night.

I spent some time with my 2 little guys this afternoon and took lot's of photos. Aaron's neighbor friend came to play so I wasn't too important after that :)
Jim, here is that 85 on the 5D, baby laying in front of a big window, no flash :)

The only PP I did was crop and add a smidge of contrast. No lightening, no sharpening. It doesn't need it!
Well, I am off. My girls are taking me out to dinner for Mother's Day (since I'll be off to Ireland then) and my b-day (which I'll be working through). We are going for Cajun food....Mmmmmmmmmm!!!!

Aren't you one of them tree hugging nature lovers that went all natural the first time around? I don't even want to be around for a 2nd go around. Looks like all the ladies do though.

Did someone mention a birthday this week? Happy Birthday, Mo, in case I'm not around due to traveling to FL this week. I'm still working on PP for events I did 2 weeks ago. And tomorrow, I'm hoping Ben can switch it.
