Kathy, I can't even imagine moving stuff like that! Good luck and be careful!

Mo, I'm probably coming next spring. I told my hubby it would be great to get away for a few days after the MathCounts thing in FL. I may bypass it completely if they don't want to rehire me.

Jim, I'm off to the temple Sunday afternoon to shoot my nephew and his bride at around 6-6:30. Want to come?

YAHOO! I made it, I survived my day in the woods, the equipment is all moved, we are all unharmed and I don't have to go back tomorrow!:D

One very important lesson I learned through this experience....if he needs help moving equipment again I need to play sick and get out of it!

I am always willing to help him, but from now on I will get better details before I volunteer myself. I can honestly say the last two days rank in the top ten of my scariest experiences ever! I am soooooo glad it is over! And no, I didn't take any pictures!

I LOVE Italian! Glad your night is better!

After being gone from the rest of the world for 2 days, I had to answer a bunch of phone calls, then an ex student showed up at my door wanting to sit around and visit, then my brother showed up to talk about his exciting day, then a friend from work called and we were on the phone for 2 hours. It is now almost 11:30 and I have been up for 21 hours, I am going to bed and NO alarm clock for me in the morning!

Morning. Kathy, glad you survived. I'm off next week. Tonight is the luau for Dan. We put two pork butts in a broiler outside and are cooking them all afternoon and night. It smells amazing. Pulling it later. Then we're going to fry up chicken and make other great food. I'm hungry already.

Oh, yesterday, with my son Dan home, we ate a whole pizza and were still hungry. It seems like he's got a good appetite now, which is wonderful. He's so thin. And he likes everything. Amazing how these young men grow up on those 2 year missions. :)

Morning to all!

Suzie, have a fun time tonight.

We are "tweaking" the house to get ready for our weekend guests...Granddaughter Meghan and her Aunt Pammy (my daughter's sister-in-law). Going to see HP and the Half Blood prince with them for sure. And then there is the Cheesecake factory :-)

I'm going to put the 24-70MM f/2.8 EF L on the 5D and do some portraits of Meg...she is a beautiful young lady (IMHO) :)

We have a Cheesecake Factory near here, but parking is problematic. Long walks in this heat are not fun, so we rarely go there over the summer. The 5D/24-70 is a sweet combination. I love shooting with it.

My favorite drink is an ice cold diet coke with the caffeine. ;)

How is everyone this morning? I survived the luau last night. My friend, Carol, shot for me so I could enjoy the guest. So much fun. My son made the pork, it was amazing! He fried up chicken, that was delicious! And I think about 80-90 people came because we used that many leis. Ran out of meat, but had tons of macaroni salad left. I got to bed around 1. Wish you all could have come.

I remember when we lived in PA, we burned citronella (sp?) candles at night to keep bugs away.

For some reason, it isn't necessary out here. (not complaining)

Lois and I usually go swimming right at dusk, and there are lots of bats in the air at that hour. Maybe they discourage the bugs.

Hi Adam! Have fun with the new toy! My dad used to shoot a lot of medium format and the pictures were great! When he passed away, I was given all his photo equipment and cameras. I used the Hasse for a while on landscape shots mostly but that was in the late 1990's and it was pretty expensive to develop the film. So now it sits on a shelf with his portrait.

All this talk about food. I actually had a hot dog for supper. We had a package of Hebrew National all-beef jumbo hot dogs. These things are huge!! A one-pound package only has 4 wieners in it.

It was good, but I'm going to be real hungry before bedtime.

Maybe I'll cook something interesting. Maybe not. I'm just as likely to grab a couple slices of bread and some peanut butter.

I'm so easy.

We had hot dogs and pork & beans three times last week:shock: After my joyous days at work with my husband I couldn't stand the thought of going shopping for food! We just had the simple "meat by products" Oscar Meyer meat weiners. I did however go all out tonight and fixed us AWESOME club sandwiches...turkey, ham, cheddar, swiss, bacon, lettuce, tomato on toasted home style Sourdough bread. They were GOOD!

LOVE IT!

I am going to attempt some brothers shots of the boys on Monday. I am sure it will involve major bribery with Aaron but if I get a good shot or two, I am willing to pay the price. :D

It just finished making a giant bowl of Gazpacho so it will chill overnight and be so yummy tomorrow. If you don't know what it is, I put all the vegetables in my house into a blender (I make it in batches) add some V-8 juice, Worcestershire and Tabasco sauce, garlic salt and lemon pepper.

Tonight the ingredients were: 5 ripe tomatoes, peeled, 1 medium zucchini, 1 English cucumber, 2 handfuls baby carrots, 5 stalks celery, 1 medium sweet onion, 1 small red, yellow and orange pepper, 24 oz. V-8 and about 1 cup of sugar snap peas. Tomorrow I will dice up some ripe avocado and float it into large cups of the Gazpacho. MMMMMMMMMM.

Sounds like a fun day. I'll be happy when cool weather returns so we can go to Cheesecake Factory here. Parking is problematic, and that usually means a long walk to get there. When it's 110-115, you look for places where it's only a few steps to the restaurant door. I would thoroughly enjoy a 'chill' right now. Enjoy your 'chill out' day.

We were susprised last night...walked into the Cheesecake Factory ay 5:45PM and it was half empty? Must be a sign of the hard times? CF is not cheap by any measure...my bill for the four of us (with no alcohol) $95!

Hope you and Lois have a wonderful day, and you get a cool breeze or two :)

We got a major rain storm last night...beautiful lightning show! Do be careful when you tackle that roof.

$95? How did you get away with that? I fed Patrick, Dan and the boys and me and went to $70 for dinner alone. We only ordered 1 piece of cheesecake and I ate most of it when we got home.

Kathy, beautiful pictures.

Tom, love to hear what you and Lois are up to today.

Jim, you are the best, most spoiling grandpa ever! Your grandkids are so lucky to have you.

I'm off to church and to the temple after for pictures. Hope everyone is well today. I will be on and off for the next little while.

Quiet day here.

I'm making a batch of meatballs in preparation for (anticipated) spaghetti and meatballs for lunch. I think there's a NASCAR race on today, so I'll end up watching that while doing some paperwork in the office.

Lois will probably end up paddling around the house doing laundry, cleaning, and maybe a little reading. Hopefully later today we will go see Harry Potter.

Stay tuned.

Good morning everyone!

Thanks for the nice comments on my Marley pictures!:D

I am editing last weeks shoots today and then heading for the city to hopefully buy some new clothes. I hate clothes shopping! I go about once a year and then wear the clothes until they are nearly threadbare. So now it's time for some new ones.

My son brought Marley over this morning for a visit. I don't get to see him much because his work schedule is such weird hours, so when he does show up it makes my day!

Hope everyone has a great day!

I hear ya. It was so hard for me to have to buy clothes when I was losing weight because I knew they were only temporaries. It just killed me to spend money on something like that and I bought very few items.
Once I got down to where I am now, I went into Gottschalks and bought every item at 60% off as they were going out of business;)

Jim, i wish I could be back there with you at the Cheesecake Factory...our closest one is 50 miles away! Hope you have found something fun to shoot!

Hi Suzie, Brooke, Tommy & Tom!!

Hi, Mo.

The Gottschalks 'going out of business' sale was something of a joke, and it seemed to go on forever. I'm glad you were able to find things. I was looking for kitchen things, and all the good stuff was only marked down 20%. I can do that any day of the week at Bed, Bath, & Beyond.

Yeah they are a little OOF, I did that, but it didn't work very well this time haha, I think part of the problem was that I was in a really big hurry, the storm was ending, and I just wanted to catch some.

The last week was good good for me. I bought a pair of Keds, a pair of Liz Claiborn dress shoes, dress slacks, a pair of Karen Neuberger pj's, two casual shirts and a pair of capris for $68 total :)

The dress slacks alone were originally $69 and the Liz Claiborn heels were $109. The pj's were also $54 and the Keds were $30. So I did really well and am very happy.

Good Morning, All!

Off to Roanoke, VA this morning for our company quarterly Board of Director's Meeting. Tonight we are having dinner at Carlos' Brazilian Restaurant...french fried lobster tail for an appetizer and then chicken with black olives over spicy rice for my entree :D Oh yum! Tomorrow we will dine at Frankie Rowans' one of the best steak houses on the planet! And, in between we might get some work accomplished ;)

I have the G10 in tow so I will try to grab a shot or two to torture everyone with :)

That sounds magnificent, Jim. I can't imagine french fried lobster.

Absolutely nothing interesting going on here. We're up at 4:30 to take brother-in-law to the airport. We'll probably just spend the rest of the day doing odds and ends.

The high point of my day is likely to be lunch. I made a batch of Spaghettie and meatballs yesterday. That means meatball sandwiches for lunch, and they are absolutely yummy. I put them on a torpedo roll with provolone cheese, then stick it under the broiler for a couple minutes.

Yum.

Went out to my moms, visited with my family and sat out in the shade and complained about the heat a lot.

I did get another wedding booked for September though and I got hired to shoot swim team photos this Friday morning.

Swim team should be interesting, I've never photographed this sport before. The photos will be a team photo & individuals. The lady that hired me pointed out the fact that they hired some other photographer last year and that the photos were AWFUL! I asked for a bit of detail about what made them awful and she said the reflection off the water made shiny spots all over the swimmers. Hummm I suggested we take the photos in front of the pool building instead of the pool itself and she was all for it.:) WHEW!

That's where I bought my first EOS camera. I dropped my camera getting it out of the overhead compartment on the plane, and bent the lens mounting. I didn't want to be in HI without a camera, so I bout an EOS 650 (film) body with a 50 f/1.8. I wish I still had them, although only for nostalgic reasons.

I'd be happy for a pancake right now. I mixed up some batter this morning, used half to make a couple for Lois----they turned out perfect. I burned mine, and didn't feel like mixing up more batter. So here I sit, trying to decide what I should eat. Maybe I'll just have a glass of V-8.

Food is a difficult subject for me first thing in the morning. I usually don't get interested in it till I've been up for a couple hours. If I didn't take pills that are only supposed to be taken with food, I probably wouldn't eat anything till noon.

The shrimp look wonderful, Suzy. I'd have to think about the fried frice for breakfast, though. By lunchtime, it would look pretty good, I'm sure.

The rainbow shot is very nice.

Tom, nutritionists recommend eating within 30 minutes after getting up in the morning. This prevents your body from thinking it is in the starvation mode which slows your metabolism to conserve your energy.

It's 5 a.m. and I can't sleep anymore. We tried to stay focused last night, but it got too late. Today we fly to the Big Island and it's 3 days there with rain and sunsets and volcanos and helicopters and some snorkling . . . . Don't feel sorry for us.

Tom, I have at least one glass of soy milk when I get up. It's what I do because I need the nutrition and I eat a good breakfast, mainly leftovers or 1/2 serving of carbs and some protein. I rarely eat a bowl of cereal as the milk makes my stomach hurt. If I don't eat breakfast, my day drags. And since I spent a few days with Maureen, I've been steadily feeling stronger and clothes fit better because I'm not sitting around. I walk everywhere. And my back hasn't hurt this week, yet. I haven't taken even one pain pill. But that may change if we hike tomorrow.

Morning, Jim and all! I miss you guys, but I'm almost sold on buying a condo here. It's so beautiful. Even the shadier parts of Oahu have flowering trees everywhere. Dan promises me some ripe lychee nuts this week. I can't wait! The wedding industry is big here. I can pay my own way if I wanted to. :)

I love Hawaii, but somehow, I think it would have been even nicer maybe 50 years ago. It is always sad to see development in such lovely areas.

Come to think of it, my first trip to Hawaii was 49 years ago, but that was in the Navy. I never got outside Oahu, and the seedier areas at that. I had no idea what a beautiful place it is till we went there as tourists in 1972.

Kathy H

I don't mind the heat when I have a place to go to get away from it, but without the AC it's miserable! It's cooled down to 91 tonight:rolleyes: I think I am going to sleep in the yard, possibly with the sprinkler on me! Our house is well insulated so we didn't realize that the AC wasn't working until it was already too late to get someone out here this week to fix it. It's so hot now the cats are laying in the bathtub. Even my reptile husband is complaining!

I have a wedding this weekend and I am hoping it will be cooler there than here. The place is right on a river and very well shaded.

Lois and I were married in January, 1962. Three days after we were 'hitched,' I left on a 6-month WESTPAC cruise. I didn't see her again until mid-July. Needless to say, we had a lot of unfinished business, mostly relating to our honeymoon.

Hawaii is a magical place in many ways. Suzie's trip has me thinking we should do it again soon before we completely run out of money. Last I heard, you can't hitch hike to Hawaii.

Sunset on the Big Island last night with my Greg on the side, refusing to get out of my shot. Amazing how he always finds his way into my shots lately. Maybe I'm not paying enough attention to him?

Yes, I know I should crop out the side, but I was in a hurry. Akaka Falls, I think. I was a walking zombie as I just ate at the best Thai place in Hawaii. And the red flower is one of many that was all over this rain forest. So beautiful, and rain just comes down all day long.

And the sunrise here in Kona just about 1 hour ago:

From the 6th floor hallway windows. I couldn't find a better spot.

Going to running around Kona today and off to Hilo tomorrow. The adventure of the luggage was interesting. Maybe later.

Have a great day!

I just came in from an hour of watching everyone swimming in the 3 pools on the beach. Really warm water, but lots of sun, so I'm in this time. The maid is here so I'll be working until she is done.

Thanks, Jim. I'm loving it, but it is a little hot. They've all gone snorkeling and I'm here doing a little work for my big pay check. :) It's been a wonderful day, though. How are all of you?

I love Akaka Falls...have been there many times:) If you go north from Kona up the Kameamea Hwy (or whatever it is named) to where the Blue Hawaiian Helicopter place is, turn left towards the Waikoloa Hilton. About 1/2 mile in, turn left and follow the road to the beach. There are TONS of sea turtles that you can snorkle with and many come up onto the beach to sleep. SO awesome! One of Hawaii's best kept secrets..I rarely see more than 5 people there every time I go.

Kathy, 104 in Portland!!!!!!! Poor thing.... that is miserable weather for you guys up in the PCNW.

We are getting a touch of the southern monsoons that sweep through Mexico and Arizona this time of year. It has brought our temps down to 98-99 but the humidity is 60%! Miserable for us who are used to the dry heat.:(

Yes, it's HOT here! We did get a bit of a thunder & lightening storm with a few drops of rain and it cooled it down a little. I should have known all I needed to do was wash my pickup and it would rain!

I did a newborn shoot tonight. This baby girl was sooooooo red and blotchy, it is going to be a PS nightmare.

Tomorrow morning at 7:00 I am shooting the swim team then off to Portland for a wedding! I am really looking forward to getting away for a few days, even if it is to work.:)
