Hi Kristin! Thanks for looking! He was a little pain in the butt! lol His poor mom was so frustrated and embarrassed, she was just sure her child is the only one that acts up at photo shoots. I have had a lot of family shoots lately and seems they all have at least one small child that does NOT want to cooperate, including my own granddaughter! lol

a friend of mine is going to be doing her clinicals in Jan and so I have volunteered my veins for her practice.
The Hanna badaid was from my niece who noticed that a piece of broken glass I was throwing away cut through the bag and caught my arm. So she knew exactly where those bandaids were at since they are for her.
She wanted to put it on me but gettin the wrapper off became too much of a chore for a 5 year old;)
heres one with no blood...but a blood red background:D

Kathy, I would love to know what settings you use...I loved the shot where he is running.....what settings did you take that with? Do you use fill flash?
Most of the time I use Av, aperture priority and I set the exposure up 1/3 because I find that Av under exposes a lot of the time. I almost always use fill flash, 580EX set on high speed sync if I am in Av. Sometimes if I don't have enough light to get a fast enough shutter speed, I will shoot in Tv and set according to how much motion I need to stop. I seldom use manual anymore, to much trouble with fast action children! lol
The shot of the little boy running was shot with the 70-200.
Av at 2.8, exposure +3
ISO 100
1/1600 which is what the camera chose
and flash
two other things that help me.......RAW and Lightroom :D

I prefer to choose my aperture for the DOF and if there is plenty of light the shutter is usually fast enough. Try setting the exposure up 1/3 and remember if you use flash use high speed sync, otherwise you usually get blow out BAD! lol

but do you think its worth it? price shipped is 525 .. and if i go to B&H, i can get it at $650 .. i keep asking myself is $125 worth saving or i can have a peaceful mind if i go to B&H .. decisions, decisions .. decisions ..

Well... that's a 20% savings going with the used lens... if you look at it that way, it's tempting...

I'm wondering... can you contact Canon, give them a serial number and have them tell you if it was ever in for repair or not? I'm not sure if they give out that kind of info...

yeah, i can either save 20% and wait, or pick it up tonight and have it with me for my weekend shoot ..
im pretty crazy when buying a lens and having it shipped .. cuz its glass and i know how UPS treats these boxes .. and if i bought it through B&H, i can test drive it for 14 days and if i dont like it .. i can return it for full refund ..
i think my choice is clear now .. thanks everyone

Well, I checked out the spinning lady, and it took a minute. I managed to get her to spin both way, although I had to resort to a little trickery to get her to change directions.
I found that I could reverse her spinning by looking at the reflection of her feet at the bottom of the picture. For some reason, that made it easier for me.

waiting for my son to get home in Missouri! I have the web cam on so I can see him come home....He says "Hi Mom" then gets something to eat and then goes outside to throw balls around!
Nothing like a web cam!

I've not seen that before Tom, interesting..
I also just checked out Picto books from the show...
YIKES for a 16 spread book 10x10 they want 561 hmmmm
I guess I'll be sticking with what I have for now
I like memador and asuka, although I was not happy memador did not do a table at the show..made me a bit uneasy...

really ? i was actually pretty impressed by graphistudio's display and booth .. and if you signed up, you'll get in the mail that portfolio and carrying case for free !!!
and in Nov, they are coming out with a drag and drop album designer software that can be used to go with their books
LeesaB

I have the graphi stuff and created a book...
I even wrote about it on WFF, it took 8 weeks to get back, their customer service was HORRIBLE, I even talked with the head of our area in NY at a seminar and she literally brushed me off.
SO after that I refused to go with them. The book is amazing. But, I can't deal with that kind of attitude when I am dealing with clients that want their books and I can't give them an answer.
So nope, no graphi for me. sorry... I will probably never deal with them because of that!

Tom, check out memador, talk to a guy named Jay, tell him I sent you! He's amazing and customer service there is splendid, beyond that!
I made so far three books with them, I let them do the designing and was very very pleased!

Here is a picture for you, see these two girls..They almost became part of the pavement on our trip home from NYC
Apparently college kids feel if you pass them it is a threat and a challenge and it happened more then once with more then one vehicle.
These girls tried to pass us, with not enough space with a semi in front of them and us in the passing lane going 90, she almost lost control of the car and struggled to gain control. then kept "playing" with us for several miles. So...I took their picture!
Now the sad thing about this is. It was me and my daughter....what if we were some crazy folk? What she did not realize was,
1. I knew her college (pasted on the back window of her car)
2. I had her license plate number
3. I had her picture
We could have easily taken the exit at Lock Haven and followed her, and if we were not sane people it may have not been good for her.
Why do most college kids have no brains? Now a days is not the days to be screwing with people.
Okay well....thought I would post it up for your opinions!

If I am right, I can take whatever pics I want as long as I do not use them for monatary gain or advertising without a release.

I did something something similar on the way home from outta town today.
This car was in the right lane, I, in the left(passing lane)
I was going well over the speed limit. 90mph at one point, but this car decided to whip aggressively behind me to avoid the traffic, then aggresively whip back into the right lane and speed up to pass.
I thought...."NUH UH!" and kept my speed well above theirs, forcing them to whip back hehind me at least 9 times.
After the first 3 I noticed what this car was doing, so each time he/she had to whip back behind me, me n my brother chuckled.
My intentions were not to piss them off, of course if I happened to do so and it were come to blows, Im confident I could handle my own.
Regardless, it was just something to do on a 2 hour drive. Before we knew it we were back in the city and mere minutes from home.
Im in college, I have a brain, at least I didnt put my schools logo on the back of my truck. GAW!

HA almost every one of the crazy kid drivers had their college logo on the car, I laughed...one kid was hilarious, he had his hand on the cruise and EVERY time he came up to a spot that a cruiser would sit he would slow it down, then speed it up, and he hated to be passed by anyone.
But literally you could not stay behind him driving like that.

what i like doing is getting ahead of someone like that and pull up pretty even with the person in the next lane over...and make a moving barracade.....oh man that makes them yunguns so mad.
Of course all of them Ive encountered have been all bark n not even a hint of a bite.
When I motion to them to pull over and get it started, they flip me the bird and speed off, then i laugh.

Hey that's one of my favorite past times also. And the trick is trying to make it appear that I'm not doing it. With a stick shift I can down shift to slow down without the tell tale brake lights.

i just use my judgement of speed.
1: how fast will i need to be to get just ahead of the nearby car?
2: which will in turn give me an idea of how much i will slow down once I let off the gas
3: then the slight gas i will have to give it to catch up or get even with the car next to me.
all that in mind takes away for the need of breaks and thus the break lights.
Quite simple when ya think about it ....THATS ALL im trying to say...THATS ALL...when ya think about it.

Step 3) Replace the ball
Step 4) Enjoy...

It is an optical mouse, Tom. It's the little ball/scroll wheel on the top that has the problem. Apple's 'Mighty Mouse' isn't so mighty at times, but it's pretty easy to fix. Apparently it's susceptible to getting dirty.

Hello there my friends ...... it has been a while, and not of my choosing. I probably won't be checking in for some time to come. It all depends upon how my surgery goes tomorrow morning.
I'll try to give the short version - typing is difficult in spite of the pain meds  Out of the blue, I've been hit with a herniated disk, and doc is going to see how much of it he can repair Friday. The operation will be about 4 hours, I won't be able to drive for 6 weeks, and they are saying I'll have to wear one of those "collars" for 6-12 months.
Needless to say, my active photography life has now been put totally on hold. - Stu

so so sorry to hear that....You know we will all be praying for you and sending positive thoughts your way and anxiously waiting to her how you have done.
My uncle had that surgery a few years ago, he was up and about in no time and has no problems to this day!
Your going to do fine.
Reading, ICK...lol, but you know in our new house it is so quiet and peaceful I actually thought of reading by the fire as a nice way to relax...actually can't wait to give it a try!
