Great shot of a great train. Looks like she's letting off a little excess steam there.

Very nice shot! Why did you crop it? (left and/or right) I'ld like to see the original full format... (I'ld like a bit more room in front of the train, little less foreground. Just nitpickin')

I cropped it to get more of the actual train, here is the pic cropped a little less

It mad a sort of clanking noise as it went past someone said, I can't remember exactly but something like the driver is opening some vent.

That is a gorgeous shot! I am decidedly partial to trains, and this one is a beauty.

Cheers, the 50 ton steam crane it was hauling is imprssive when they get that going.
This is them cleaning the smokebox out that night, I pushed the ISO and used neatimage to get the image as best I could, the lights behind didn't help. To get an idea how poor the light was you can see the guy is shining a torch to show the one with the shovel where to chuck the char.

Gorgeous shot! There's an old bridge across Highway 49 in Northern California near the Amador and El Dorado County border. I'd love to get a shot of a train like this going over that. Unfortunately, I don't think the bridge is in use any more. As much time as I've spent up there, I've never seen one go over it.

What a beauty!! I got to ride the Durango/Silverton Narrow Gauge steam locomotive train from Durango, Colorado to Silverton, Colorado, U.S.A. while on vacation in 2002. About a six hour round trip through some "gorgeous" countryside. It was awsome!! Too bad I didn't have my digital camera then. You've got a great shot there.

You did well with the smokebox image also - difficult shooting situation, but the shot catches the true nature of the situation. Its a dirty, smoky job. That aspect shows clearly.

Beauty of a shot!
On balance, I'm partial to the uncropped picture. Provides a visual context for the train.
...plus I like that more steam shows in the shot.
Nice photo of the smoke box as well.

Very nice.
I preffer the portrait version as it increases the weight of the smoke in the shot.

Both versions look good to me. The cropped shot gives me an impession of power, while the uncropped one gives an impression of speed. But just for arguments sake, I'd like to see the original with just a bit taken off the bottom and RHS.

I like both versions, they are great. I live by the side of the Cardiff to Crew line and used to see Steam Locos go by occasionally, but have not seen one for a long time. quadphoto
