I have been reading a lot here and so I thought I would try out some of it out. We were Bowling, the light was absolutely awful but then again so were the final shots so any help you could give me would be great...It might be the best I can do considering the light and the kit lens but honestly I must be able to get a better shot. Thanks...

The two darker pics were taken on the TV setting at 800 ISO, 1/250 Shutter Speed, all the shots were hand held...The light blurry one was taken on the regular sports section...

Is there any post processing I can do...to help these pics?

Thanks again...

Time was not short enough to make sharp photo. For most of sport stuff is 1/250 a bit long. Nekt time try shorter time (1/500 or faster) and you will see difference. If you can't get it with shooting at wider open lens try spinning iso up. Yeah I know there's noise and stuff at higher iso's but it's nothing that bad. I constantly shoot at iso 1000 and above with 1d (not mk2) and photos are fine. Ok there is noise but so was before with iso 800 and above films. Only difference is that before it was called grain (and with b&w films I actually like it) now it's called noise (and no matter what I don't like it :) ).
When it comes to this photo you can't do anything to fix it. It's just way to blured to be fixed. But with a bit of croping you can still get interesting photo with this blured bowler. Things doesn't need to be always sharp :)

Here is my attempt at fixing one of the images. Used some curves adjustment, shadow/highlight in Photoshop and then used Neat Image to fix the little noise that came out once I brightened the image.

I would try and use the custom white balance and see if that helps the lighting. It's pretty easy to set with just a white piece of paper, then I would buy a 50 1.8 lens, for about 80 bucks for low light shots, then you might be able to shoot are 400 asa at 2.5, freeze the action and blurr out the distracting backrounds. Hope that helps.

How exactly do you set it? Just point the camera at the white piece of paper and do what. Sorry I am coming from a point and shoot Kodak and trying to learn my way around the Rebel...Thanks again for the help...

It's in the book, so check that out, just so you know how to reference it. You press the wb button, then turn the dial, by the shutter button, till the custom wb icon comes up, then take a picture of a white piece of paper or an 18% grey card, then go to the menu and select custom wb and press set and I think that does it.It should display the picture of the paper and that is when you press set. The book shows you which icon is custom wb, but I think it looks lik a flower with a leaf on each side of it. hope that helps.

Second go around with Bowling pictures...I bought myself the 50mm 1.8II lens and I set the ISO to 1600 - yeah there is a little noise but I haven't done any photoshopping yet...

Unfortunately the bowling lane was too busy so I couldn't get down the lane to get their eyes in the photo...

What do you think?

Oh those are pretty noisy. Did you try running them through a Despeckle filter or something?

No I have not run them through any noise reduction at all...What are your suggestions for the best way to get rid of the noise?
