I recently just recieved a Canon PowerShot A400 from Best Buy for Christmas. Recently... (on my birthday none the less) my digital camera was in my purse, zippered up and all, my purse was hanging on a chair at a restaurant, my friend accidentally knocked the purse off of the chair... then I went to go take a picture and all that showed on the screen was whiteness with weird green lines on it. I took it to Best Buy and he said the LCD screen was busted.

I still have to send it to Canon to see if they can replace it for free under the warranty. Does anyone have faith that Canon will do this for me? Or am I out of luck with Canon? Aaaand, what can I do about this?!?! I want my camera back! http://stevesforums.com/forums/images/emoticons/shakehead.gifhttp://stevesforums.com/forums/images/emoticons/shakehead.gif

If the glass is broken, you'll have to pay for it unless the person who gave it to you also got an extended service package covering breakage on it. If you feel handy, there've been several posters on here who have replaced the LCD in various PowerShots themselves. Those threads might be helpful (do a search).

As Jon says, you can replace the LCD yourself. They're not overly expensive (Around 20 to 25 pounds here in the UK, or I seem to remember the figure of $45 up being quoted for the US).

One word of caution, replacement is relatively straightforward, but you do need to be fairly comfortable with the idea of working with small delicate components. It's not a job for clumsy or heavy handed people! :)
