Well with all the thread of the best dog, cat, bird, horse and so on. I thought I might start a Pet Boo Boo thread. Post any pictures of your Loved dog, cat, horse, rat, rabbit, bird etc............. if you feel like explaining what happened feel free to do so.

Well here are a few of my little buddy Badger. He was running around in the grass both times when he ripped his dewclaw almost off of his front leg. He acted like nothing ever happened and blood was coming out and down his leg. What a kid huh?

Here is his very first boo boo

And here is the same paw but the second time.

What a trooper this kid is. Out romping around with his republican. He thrashes the living hell out of this toy. Gotta love it.

Leg injuries on horses are bad no?

She went lame with a fluid build up on one of her tendons as there was a lesion in it (caused by a slip we think - never can tell exactly). What followed was a few months of a viscious circle of draining the fluid, bandaging, resting, in hand exercise, restricted turnout, etc. As soon as she was fit enough to ride, the fluid would rebuild up again and she would become lame again even though the hole in the tendon lessened.

Eventually the annular ligament (which is like an elastic band across the back of the heel area which all the tendons pass underneath) thickened so much it would not let the fluid drain anywhere so we were left with a bulging leg and a mechanically lame horse. Meaning she was very lame to look at but not in pain - although if left she would never have been rideable again and it would have gotten thicker and thicker eventually leading to her being put down.

So we were referred to Rossdales in Newmarket who poked, prodded, xrayed, nerve blocked, scanned, etc before admitting Minstral for an operation the next day to cut the annular ligament to release the pressure build up and let the leg get back to normal. The operation was a great success although a hell of a lot of stress - 1 in 10 horses die under GA because they break legs when recovering - and I've never felt so ill waiting for the call to say she was ok.

The photo is from the next day when I could visit her for the first time so very special to me, and two months of boxrest and restricted exercise later, we were finally riding again, something I thought would never happen. Two years later, she is as good as new and we are back to normal activity wise enjoying each other again :)

Here's Ginger's booboo. And she's done this THREE times! Twice pretty bad and once just superficial.

She got caught in the wire fencing and cut her legs up. Both times, both legs. One leg always worse than the other.

[Pictures aren't great, pre-DSLR!]

The worse leg, stitched up.

And then we had to deal with proud flesh! [Granulation tissue which grows over the wound]. Thankfully, we fought off the proud flesh with a home-made solution of iodine and sugar! Worked like a charm!

[Now I have a DSLR ;)]

This was after we got rid of the proud flesh and worked on closing up the wound

Now she isn't affected by it at all. There is a little bump and some hair did not grow back, but she's a tough girl and thank god, she is fine after all that! :)

Misky - he lost his eye before we adopted him. His old owner had several other cats, one who became very territorial when she met him, & fought him, causing an injury to his eye, which had to be removed.

Here's Celie the day we brought her home. She had been shoved in a pen with a lot of male dogs that were constantly shoving her into the fence.

Poor Misky, Celie and Brody. I hope they are all better now. I knew this dog named bear, a family friends dog. The dog was blind in both eyes but knew the house like he was not blind. I felt so sorry for him but then when he was running around without hitting things that all changed.

Here's another one.
This is "Poko" at my barn, and I don't know what happened to him, he's not my horse. Thinking he just bonked into something and got cut. It's all healed up now. This happened middle of October.

This is my Bentley a day after having his eye removed due to Glaucoma. Yes it was a gross injury and took about 3 weeks to heal, but he is now a pain free, happy, one eyed dog.

My little stallion (Ranger) @ 13 months old - 20 hrs after surgery .. He was running out of steam when I walked him for about 10 mins. at the vet clinic. (Vet's suggestion) (I was literally holding his head up) The day before, he had cast himself against the fence and displaced his intestines... required surgery to fix it. ($$ cha-ching $$)
http://www.equineelite.com/redhorse/personalimages/rangersick1.jpeg

.. and then, about 6 yrs later, he needed surgery again to remove about 9 entroliths (minerals that grow like pearls in the gut.. he had some the size of baseballs).
After his surgery, he developed pigeon fever (aka 'dryland distemper - where they break out in abcesses) next to the suture site. .. Since his surgeon was almost 2 hrs away, I emailed him these photos:
(abcesses next to the stapled suture site):

after it was cleaned up:

I just cleaned it a few times per day, & he was ok.

Because our business deals in broad spectrum antimicrobial topicals for dogs & horses, we get some pretty graphic before & after photos from our customers.... but it's nice to hear about their happy endings.

Here's my little Enzo (Furrari!).

Story is this poor little guy was abandoned and followed us home. Poor guy was in bad shape with his ribs exposed and as you can kind of see on there were scabs on his nose. We believe the lil guy got into a fight or something.

Anyways, this was back in September, I have since taken him in and he's doing great.

Pics. taken by my roommate on his SD850 IS. It's a fine camera and all, but after owning a dslr, I just wouldn't be able to put up w/pictures like this!
