Im in a process of purchaseing the Canon 1D Mark II. I currently own a 10D. Im going to keep the 10D for back up and use it sometimes. My question is, should i buy it now or wait to see if there will be a price break. Im currently shoot professionally and have done a couple of weddings, but would buying this camera take me to the next level?? I graduate college this may and im thinking about starting a business. Thank you for your help and hope to hear some advice soon.

If you wait on Canon to give a price break, you will be missing the use of a great camera. I have only seen slight price reductions on older equipment when its replacement hits the shelves. The 1D MkII is an awesome camera. I cannot say enough good things about it. I cannot, however, say that it will make you a better photographer.

It will be a camera that you can work with for a very long time, longer even than its predecessor. If you want it, and have the funds for it, get it. Then you will have more time to learn its functions and features before relying on it. I read the PDF manual for the 1D MkII 3 times before even having my hands on the camera.

if you wait for the next price break, you might as well not buy any gear, ever. if you are shooting for profit and your profit margin is good enough to justify the purchase, do so.

will it take you to the next level? what is the next level for you? its a question only you can answer. there are definate advantages to the body, most of it is speed related... so if that is a concern of yours then sure, buy it. 2-4 weddings should cover the cost of it

You will not see any more significant price breaks on this camera for a year. Or until they replace it, whichever comes first. Get it, you will never regret it. Even if they come out with a 16.7 1DMKII you won't care. As least I won't. This is one exceptional piece of machinery. One of, if not the finest camera on this planet. IMO, it is the finest camera ever.

The 1D Mk II is already showing a $500 or so price break over MSRP at B&H or other good sites. I wouldn''t expect the next generation to force any more price-cutting for another 6 months or so, minimum. As for taking you to the next level, what limits of the 10D are you running into? Does the 1D Mk II address them? And is the 1D Mk II the only camera that will? If you're concerned about saving money, consider the 20D against the limits you're finding.

Actually Jon, that price drop occured several months ago. Somehere around $3900-$4100 is about the going prices that I have seen from legit dealers.

As allready stated,. you have allready waited for the break, it's here now.

If another arrices,. the very soonest it could possible be would be late August,. but I doubt that will happen. Unlike the D30-20D line which was replaced almost yearly (they let the 10D hang in there longer) the 1 series camera usually hang arouind for three years before replacement.
Today the 1D MkII is only 1 Year old,... (well eleven months really)

If history repeats itself,. it will be two moe years before it is replaced.

Just get the camera and be happy to save $400.00 ;)

As said, you won't see a huge price break anytime soon. About the camera taking you to the next levle? no it wont. But it will facilitate you when you decide to go to the next level. It's all in the photographer.

IMO, the 1D MKII is the best overall camera on the market. Even compared ot the 1Ds MKII, the only thing the 1Ds MKII has is the much larger sensor, on the other side, the 1D MKII is much much faster. Everything else is the same. For a pro wedding/fashion/portrait shooter, I would suggest either of the 1Ds cameras because thay have such large sensors, for everyone else, especially journalists and sports shooters, the 1D MKII.

I paid $4100 at Onecall back in October.

Did I claim it had only just happened? I merely pointed out that the price had dropped already, and that further drops weren't likely any time soon.
