It's probably not new to most of you, but for a beginner like myself I thought this was amazing - so thought I'd post it in the general talk about photography rather than putting it in the macro forum to hopfully share it to another beginner alike!

I got the tip, somehow randomly browsing a site which had a youtube video and this was linked to it (totally unrelated though!)

the FOV is really limited, but for me, who never dabbled in macro before - wow what an eye opener!!!! I've been annoying my wife by shooting her pupil, eye lashes, nails, hair, plants around the house - even dust! I think I'm gonna get a proper macro lens now, it's like a whole new world!

Anyway, to show you what it's like - here's my wedding ring - straight out of the camera, crappy popup flash onboard (400D):

Then using my 90-300 waste-of money purchase, with my nifty fifty (I guessed around 100mm, as this lens doesn't have distance marking on it):

Photos aren't the best, but for me as I said it was a real eye opener!

Hmm, should have cropped the first image - but was only meaning to show the 2nd one really anyway!

I just got my wife the Sigma APO MACRO 150mm F2.8 EX DG HSM. All I can say is it's one hell of a lens. The cheapest reliable source I found was Amazon (direct from them, not drop-shipped).

You can see some of her stuff here:http://www.pbase.com/carolbreton/image/105086466. Feel free to roam around her postings if you are interested. Let me know what you think.

I think what you're showing us is that you've discovered what it means to get to 1:1 macro size. If that's your discovery you also have the option of extension tubes on a wide variety of lenses to help them achieve the same result (without needing a dedicated macro lens). You can also use them on a macro lens to increase the effect even further, so they have a use no matter what your kit looks like.
