I took this candid at ISO 1600 late in the afternoon. No flash. It was one of my first with the 135L. I just like the expression and emotion.

C&C would be appreciated.

She looks very happy...it looks like your focal point was on her mouth...maybe that's what you were going for, but you'll catch it quite a bit on the forums for not focusing on eyes...

In this case I'd actually like to see a little less tight crop, so that it shows more of what she's happy about.

I'm fine with the focus on her mouth since it's a shot of her laughing. To me it looks more like the focus is on her chin though.

I think it's a great idea and overall a nice shot.

Thanks for the comments. To be honest, I have no idea how to focus spot on with a moving target indoors. I had the ISO bumped up to 1600 and had the lens pre-set to 2.0, so the DOF was very shallow. Since it was a candid, it was just a "grab the camera and take a shot" moment. If she sees me with the camera, she'll run for cover. I'll have to spend more time on the forum to get a better idea how to perfect this type of shot.

Do you use a single AF point or do you let the camera choose for you? Selecting a single point works the best for me.

I had a hard time with Autofocus because I was used to clunky old manual cameras before and when I got my 300d I was excited to let the camera do all the work for me. The Auto features are nice, but they rarely do what you would want them to.

Single auto point with Al Servo. I didn't crop the picture at all, so you can imagine the shallow DOF.
