I have been trying to find that one thread about using a monopod for football, but I cannot find it. It had a video in it of how to use the monopod. I want to see the video because I am lately looking at monopods to determine which one to get. Thanks.

Nevermind. I typed in Football Photography on You Tube and I have found the video i was looking for and a few others that I put in my favorites.
It was a quick release monopod I was looking for. I want to get one of those.

You do realize it is just a straight stick with a 1/4-20 threaded post on one end. There really isn't much to it.

What is quick release monopod?
Just get any $50 bogen and you can stick 400mm f2.8 on it.

Come on Bobby a Gitzo CF with a RRS mono pod head will give you a 10% increase in your keeper rate. I always love the discussion that goes on about mono pods in the equip talk section.

I Know. I do have full wimberly head which I use with cheap feisol and I should get gitzo for that setup but spending >$100 on monopod is ridiculous. You don't save any weight at all with those CF ones.

Well with a MIIn, 300 2.8 w/1.4tc, flash bracket w/580ex, Quantum Turbo SC on mine, I'm not sure if saving a few onces is going to help.. I do have a nice tri and ballhead for landscape.

If you want a "quick release monopod" all you need is to find a monopod that you like and put a quick release head on it. I do this with my 300/2.8 using a bogen QR plate and receiver. There are a wide variety of monopods and QR systems to choose from.

I've had a Giottos MM9780 with a MH652 ball head on it for a few years and I like it. It's not a fancy carbon fiber monopod with a built in MP3 player, GPS tracking device and PEZ dispenser but it does what it's supposed to do.
I think I might have preferred a lever locking system over the twist lock. Decide which type you like and if weight and size matter to you and then go from there.
Now if I could only find a tripod collar for my 50mm f/1.4... ;)
