What do you do when the school paper says "go shoot a volley ball game" you go do it... First time I've watched a vball game in person... So my timing is really off (160 frames for like 5 keepers) and the xti's 1600 iso is really really noisy (40d coming in the mail!) so aside from needing noise ninja what do you think?

I think they are good. Ya some noise.. 40D will do little less. I am wondering how the 50D may be in this lighting with its expanded ISO. What lens are you using?

nice, not bad for first time. but ya gotta love those assignments that you're not used to doing....you want me to do what?!? ok.... :-P
you got some interesting views of the defense blocking. did you crop these pretty tight or did you just shoot that tight? also, get your team on a little offense and you will have some more usable shots. I'm sure there are prolly some slow plays in the middle. anyways, hope your get your 40d soon and try it again. would like to see your results.

got my 40d today! Blocking is definately the easiest to anticipate, what a hard sport to shoot...

# is the best. Hard sport to shoot since it goes so fast. What was your pp on these? Exposure is pretty freaking great if you were at f4 the whole time. What shutter speed were you getting?

Pretty good for shooting at f/4. After my first experience, I got the 85mm f/1.8 & used it for these (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=594045). Put it on your Christmas list! ;)
