I'm taking my 20D + 17-40 + (soon to be acquired) 70-200 2.8 overseas with me. As this is a fairly sizeable value and it will be in the hotel room for quite a bit of time (its a work trip) I've been looking at insurance.

Anyone here from Oz that might be able to help in me sourcing just plain camera cover - most places want me to take out full travel insurance - no need as work is covering that part of it, I just want camera cover. My contents insurance only covers Aust and its "overseas states" (Tas and NZ :)) but I'm going to Europe.

Dion,

I'm pretty sure it's travel insurance that you need. With it being a work trip and all your employer will no doubt have a corporate travel insurance policy so you should be able to get the details of what that covers. If it only covers personal belongings up to say $2000 you should have no problem contacting the insurance provider either directly or through your HR dept to get a raised coverage limit for that particular trip for a fairly nominal fee, from history I think around A$20-$50 for a 2-3 week trip.

By the way, which insurance company are you using for your contents insurance to cover you Australia wide? I've been looking into getting coverage for my gear when in Oz and haven't been able to find much info.

Hope this helps

Paul

Thanks Paul - yeah I am pursuing the corporate cover options so shall see where that leaves me.

I have my Australian insurance thru my contents insurance provider - RACQ. Not much use to you over in WA though ... the only other company I've had this cover with is Suncorp - again QLD based only.
