This is the last ocean going Paddle Steamer in the world.....THE WORLD
I know everybody in Scotland has heard of it ( I think )
but I believe it has been doing the rounds in England over the last few years.

Anybody down south heard of the "P.S. Waverley" ?

Wow. I've never seen a paddle steamer before. Excellent shot.

Any idea when it was built?

Hello Lomond.
yes we certainly have seen the waverly around here, few years ago now they were running trips in and around the Bristol Channel area.

Its a lovely setting where you captured this and a real impressive boat.

I'm up late again been setting up a new gallery this week sort of getting there but all takes time,
take a look let me know, not mentioned it on here until now, mainly motorsport & Classics so far .

Keel laid 1945, launched 1947.
This shot was taken from Rothesay on the Isle of Bute.

For a while, I think she was a nightclub on the Isle of Wight when I was growing up there. Pretty sure it was the Waverley. Obviously someone found a more appropriate use for her. She is looking well.

Hi Lomond thats a first class image you have taken of the Waverley, I like it very much. The Waverley used to tour the Bristol Channel every summer several years ago, but not sure if it still does? I last sailed on the Waverley about 15 years ago on a trip from Penarth Pier accross the Bristol Channel to the mouth of the River Avon, we were then meet by a steem tug and towed up the Avon to Bristol, I am going to start searching for the photo's that I took on the trip and if I have any luck finding them Iwill post them up for you.
Regards Quadphoto

Hi Cameron, great shot. Was it taken recently?

I've heard of the Waverley for two reasons:

1. It was in Ayrshire when I was there in the summer! :)

2. I think Fred Dibnah did a piece about it on one of his shows.

Thanks all,for the kind words.

Quadphoto..... I'm pretty sure she still does the Bristol Channel as well as the Clyde and I think the Thames.
Hope you find the old photos, would be interesting.

Damian........ I took this shot in the summer of 2003 from Rothesay on the Isle of Bute. The land in the background is the tip of the Cowal Peninsular.
Wish I had seen the Fred Dibnah piece.

BoySpot...... A nightclub on the Isle of white. She gets around, doesn't she ?

An interesting fact.... the present owners bought her in 1974 for .......£1.

It's great that this steamer is kept in sailing condition. I hope they can keep it going for another 50 years. Thanks for the nice bit of history.

It's a fantastic seeing this unique ship sailing by our house every day :D. Much more attractive than the Polaris subs.

Will post a shot I took this summer from our garden tonight. It's a pity it is moored next to the Glasgow Science Center for the winter though. Then again, it provides a fantastic opportunity for a night shot set against a lit Science Centre.
