I'm looking to pick up a flash for use as a hobby and for general indoor family gathering photos... I don't think I need a 580 due to no professional work being done and no current need for a master...
Can you guys recommend a good flash that I could pick up with a decent recycle time that would be good for the above uses? It doesnt need to bounce off super high ceilings or anything, just something better than the on camera flash.
Thanks!

If price is an object and if you want to retain ETTL automation I think your best bet is a Canon 430EX. If you can find one. Sigma makes a decent unit also.
If ETTL automation is not important the price will drop considerably.

Are you considering used? Over on www.fredmiranda.com are a coupld of Metz 54MZ for Canon, for sale at about $225, a wonderfully powerful unit similar to Canon 580EX.

430EX, it's easier to use than the 420.
