I know this isn't a flash related question, but it's the closest part of the forum I found to be related to studio work. I'm in the market to buy a black or white, eventually both, backdrop or background for a small studio I'm trying to build. I will be standing about 10 feet at most from the backdrop and only plan on doing single to small group shots. I would like some feedback on what kind of backdrop to get, brand, material. I know nothing about them. Mediators, if this is in the wrong place, please move it to the appropriate section. Thanks to all who respond.

2 options:

1.) seamless paper background - cheaper
2.) muslin - more expensive

I got 8 yards of black fabric from walmart for about $20.00.. I have no complaints. The pic below was taken using the blackdrop and 2 translusent umbrella's .

thanks for the tips. What if I wanted to shine light on the backdrop to help the subject stand out? Would that need a different material than musslin cotton?

You might also consider going with a gray background. You would then adjust your exposure to make it white or black. You're in the right place. Do a search on backgrounds and you get a lot of information.
