I love these guys. Think punk meets bluegrass meets dark singing. Love it.

This first one I'm especially proud of. I'm always trying to get this shot, where the feet are firing and that's where the energy comes from.

This one freaks me away because it looks like he's slitting his throat with the bow and his hair is on fire from the lights.

And here I worked with a new BW technique.

Usually, if I don't get any comments and I write something like "Oh c'mon, nothing?" then someone will write something.

"Oh, c'mon, anyone??"

Hey it worked! Thank you, that is probably my favorite of the shoot. And it took at least 40 tries of holding the camera up to their face-level to get it.

I like #2, just wish there was a little more detail visible in the dark areas.

Truth be told, I love me some O'Death. Great tunes! Is this one of teh shows they played with Hoots and Hellmouth? I have photographed hoots 3 times I had the chance to shoot O'Death twice but I always seem to come up.....I think both times I had a bad cold.

#1 would be good if you caught the end of the banjo in the photo.

#2 would be great if you could see the bass player's eyes

#3 is a good photo except unfotunately I am not big on the PP

Still on the fence about #2.
I like the guy on the right.
I don't like the "mic in the eye" on the left guy...

Nice action in #1

Nah, this was their CD release at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. And yea, they rock, there was maybe only 200 or so people there but all of em were going crazy dancing.

As for the mic stand, I used to feel the same as you guys. It's distracting, and I know if I had my druthers I'd nix it, but in the world of documentary photography (what I define as having no control over the way things go other than your exposure and maybe a little bit of lighting), I've found that you can't let such small distractions ruin an otherwise stunning photo. You can still see his overall expression, so you know what kind of emotions are present. Same for the banjo; you don't need to see everything, and besides, the instrument isn't even the focal point of the shot. I'm a strong believer in that if something's too perfect, it'll lack style. Flaws, to a degree, will help the better parts of the image pop. If an extra inch of banjo head makes or breaks a photo for you, then may I suggest not looking at a photograph so technically minded and more as an overall piece of art. Don't worry about the tiny imperfections, they only increase the power of the image.

And for the post processing, someone told me they think it looks gross. That is precisely what I wanted to achieve, so just keep that in mind. Grossness. If you've listened to O'death you'll understand!!

# 2 (numbering them is helpful, btw) has some really good aspects and some not-so-good ones. I like the overall "feel" of the photo and the processing. I think the dark does it good. I also am not fond of the mic-in-the-eye portion and while I understand the "documentary photography" comment, your processing seems to be more creative than documentary. I'm not sure what is the right way to handle this. Maybe some cloning and re-cropping?

Cloning wouldnt work (not for me anyway) because theres not enough to clone from. My pp is definitely more creative than it is documentary, but there is nothing I could have done to avoided having one guy blocked by the mic. I look past things like that and I think most people do too because it's not overwhelmingly distracting.

They do put on a great show. I like these shots. #2 is my favorite. I feel like #3 might be my favorite, but it is a bit overprocessed for me.

I've gotten that response a lot and I don't mind it; most of my work is relatively unphotoshopped so to catch a little flak for one doesn't bother me. Also, I think I at least conveyed the disgusting and grossness that I feel O'death's music encapsulates.
