I took a photo of this female Hairy Woodpecker in my compost this morning. His beak is a little dirty.

Lovely shot Maz. Gotta get a Rebel. What lens do you have? Reigh

Thank You Reigh,
I just have the 18-55mm kit lenses and a Tamron A70-300 F/4-5.6
They are pretty basic but it's all I have at the moment. I took 44 photos and this was the best. I was 4 feet away.
Thanks,

Great shot, Maz.
In the compost you say?
In my garden, I sometimes see a woodpecker too (green with red head), around the compost. Are they searching for the worms that work in the compost? Easy catching them...
Unfortunately the compost is about 25 meters from the house and even with a 300mm (75-300) and the 20D it's far away for the size (guess about 15-20 cm)
When I get out into the garden, he's flying away...
and what's more, the band of magpies we have around here is always chasing him away

Wow only 4 feet away. Where you hidden under cover or is this guy just fairly happy for you to get that close?
