Not happy with any of these really. I was so upset yesterday. Every time I had a good shot, there was half of a ref in it. The whole game started that way with my very first shot and I just got pissed from then on out. For a lot of the game, I wasnt even shooting. Thing that sucks about Basketball is that there are only so many available positions to shoot from. Once youre sitting in a spot, youre pretty much confined to that spot for the game. If thats not bad enough, all the refs are different so you never know where theyre going to stand. I think Im going to try for a different position next time. The first time I shot basketball, I sat out on the outside but then the people who really helped me a lot always sat toward the inside. I really liked the outside though...I think thats where Ill be next time.

I also have some bugs that need to be worked out with the 5D. Nothing major. Just a learning curve.

Just at the baseline/sideline instead of baseline near the basket.

Adam - it's just that your "bad" shots are better than my good ones! lol! I will say at first glance I didn't necessarily like #8, but after looking at it more, it truly does give an idea of where the game is at. I like #5 with the determination on McGee's face. Thank you for sharing them.

I think these look fine Adam. The last two do nothing for me though. I hear you on refs. We all have those missed moments but sometimes I swear they mess with you on purpose. I almost got tossed from a soccer match for suggesting such. They guy warned me after I reminded him that we both had jobs to do.

Thanks for the reply. I think my friends and I are the only ones that like 8 and its really just because were all UL fans.

Yeah. The thing about basketball (at least NCAA Div I basketball) is that once youre in your seat, youre in your seat and thats that. You never know where the refs are going to be beforehand so its just a gamble. Normally I luck out on the inside but it went south this time. :(

Depends what game and what school as far as floor space goes. Like I said, "good" seats are all up to chance.
The way it seems to play out for me is that you can get a better angle of the players face by getting on the baseline, close to the goal but you run the risk of officials blocking you.
You can sit more towards the sideline, lose the good angle on the players, but have less chance of officials being in your way. Its just a gamble.

When you take pictures for the school, they let you do just about anything you want

At least for a half, you can usually move during halftime (obviously depending on the number of media and if you have assigned positions for the game or not)

Normally we get pretty full. Sometimes even to the whole front row/back row ordeal (which is a real pain). Now that the first game of the year is over, itll probably die down for the next few games.

The pictures came out great.... i CC'ed these images in Photoshop with a little saturation to give it some color pop, but your regular ones look great!

Before I say though, how do they look different to you? Im not saying they look the same...Im simply curious what looks different to you.

Little too unrealistic for my tastes. Thanks for the kind words though!

Adam,
I was looking for some old pictures of your bball shots but it seems you have erased them all so I can't compare them.
But your 5D images do not look as contrasty (is that a word lol) no as sharp as the ones you used to post with the Mark III.
It just seems you may have lightened up a bit in those areas with the 5D Files.

Haha well, Ill say one thing for sure.
The more I shoot, the less sharpening and contrast I apply. I looked at the first pictures I shot back in the day and theyre a hot mess. These are probably sharpened less than the MkIII files were because they were resized in photoshop and then sharpened at their display size.
With these, they were converted in LR, sharpened mildly at that size, and then exported to a smaller size.
I can say without a doubt though that given the same methods, the 5D produces MUCH sharper files than the MkIII did.
As far as contrast goes, I just try to keep it neutral. I try to keep it how it looked in real life.

Thanks.
These were all with a 70-200.
DOF is sooo short when youre using full frame. I cant wait for the 5DII so I can shoot 4000 ISO and f/4
