hi , i had an ibm microdrive and the thing broke somehow , so whenever i put it in the camera stops working and doesn't even go on and off..
so i bought a brand new non-microdrive compact flash memory card , and i got my camera back from the service today , it was working fine till i mixup the new flash card with the old one and accidentaly put back the broken microdrive card into camera's slot , so the machine doesn't even go on and off again .. and i just paid $50 for the technical service and i can't afford it again ..
plus i have an assignment due to 2 days and i can't get back my camera even if i had to pay for the service.. so does anyone know how can i suck the eletricity from inside the camera ? or whatever i have to do to bring it back to life again ?
please this is really important and serious.. =\

Welcome to the forum. My best suggestionns:
Throw the bad Microdrive away.
You might try removing the battery for several minutes and starting over.
Hope this helps.

go back to the service, and tell them that it worked only once, and the problem
came back again ! and you wait one time and you dont want to wait second time
and you want them to fix it immadiatly. (ofcourse tell them you wont pay them again !!!)
its should work !

ok....people are doing it, and will doing it without my help.
in my workplace (im a labs and service manager in a very big computer company)
the client is the best, and so is... i never argue with them.
if you are so honest, you should say: "how stupied am i, i made the same mistake again,
please, i know you are good people and can fix it in some simple steps,
dont charge me again and please i need it as fast as you can"
but you wont.
without saying it, me as a service man at first, will NOT charge people if they come
back that fast with the same problem, and defiantly push it to be the first thing in my list.
its how you say it, that all.

Have Fun,
i "accidentaly" broke that damn thing already .. new card is super good and fast .. and i already rested the batteries for about an hour and put them back .. i just can't get my camera working ! =\
i guess 10d doesn't have a smart-fuse .. which is awful ..
any other suggestions people please ?

Umm... yes, that's precisely what I would say, except I'd expect to get charged again.
anyway... to get back to the problem in hand.
"bittertaste"; I think your only option is to take it back to the service center and either admit to your mistake or not as you see fit. I don't think there's any other solution.

If you send me the microdrive that's caused all these problems, I'd be willing to take it to the range and put a few bullets through it for you. Your choice of caliber.
Won't solve your problem, but maybe it'd bring you some satisfaction.

Bittertaste you dont say where your based,
if in the uk i would get your camera back to be serviced soon as pos,
but then find a canon proffesional dealership as most of these offer a hire facillity for camera & lenses, I guess you need it for weekend .
often weekend hire works out quite good .
how did you damage the card.
last Friday i totalled a microdrive by dropping it 2ft yes 2ft onto hard floor it was full of course all images are lost, fortunately they were not of great importance. end of microdrives for martin has to be said .
PS. if you need another duff card your welcome to it.
Unless anyone on here knows something i dont about reclaiming.
Cheers

hey there huckaback
unf. i'm from Turkey but thank you for trying to help =\ , instead of hiring i can use my university's equipment with the booking system they have .. but i'd be more comfortable with my own camera since it's better than what school has to offer atm =\
how did i .. let's see .. i bought a brand new western digital ext. hdd with a "media center" they call .. which is an 8-in-1 card reader integrated in the same external hdd box with the hdd .. so i come home plug it in , hdd works perfect and i'm happy with my new empty space.. i plug in the card readers via usb , and put in the card to get my "already done" assignment . it starts working and taking images to my hdd from the flash card and boom . at 16th image it goes off and pc restarts itself out of the blue , and after that whenever and wherever (photography shops , print shops , school) i plug the microdrive and the machine's go crazy .. and that's it , i have 16 images for a 500 image assignment since then .. what a lucky guy am i huh .. turns out the western digital external hdds with the "media center" aren't compatible with all the storage cards as they say in the product's manual..
i have changed the product immediately with a non-"media center"ed one , but the assignment is gone for good.. so i got my camera repaired 5 hours ago and now i made the same mistake =\
how stupid is that , there's a high-class semi-pro digital slr camera in my hands and it doesn't even have a smart-fuse .. =(

have you try to release the backup battery ? (the small one in the bottom)
try to release it for couple of minutes and then put it out again.
btw: if it was mine, i would try to short the circuit by connect each connection between
the battery and the camera to the opponent connection. (plus(+) to minus(-) and (-) to plus(+))
but that's me....

Bittertaste sorry to hear of your problems re machinery etc.
sure i dont know a way round this, but after you giving full details someone else may shed some info.
How about a call to the service centre where repaired ask if any way for you to overcome problem.
one final thought i think iwould consider if any come back on supplier of the kit that caused the problem in first place
Best Wishes

ok i got there and made a face , explained i need it fast and the man asked what is it that i'm doing to camera .. external flash? a new lens? or a CF card? .. and i said CF card , so he told me not to use it again - never .
of course i wasn't seriously gonna try anything like opening up my camera or stuff .. but thought it would be helpful if anybody who had this before knew a very easy trick to fix this .. guess there's not ..
good thing is they haven't charged me .. they were not happy about it , but they aren't happy at all anyway .. they just spared me =)
thanx to anyone who have replied anyway !..
