A good friend is getting a high end studio set up and is willing to sell me his old kit http://www.adorama.com/SVKT800.html and less that half the new price .
I am now thinking about getting into Product and Portrait photography .

They are photo floods - hot lights. Given the use for product photography they would work because your subject won't move. I don't know about portraits because people move. Even when you tell them to hold still. Hot lights just do not work in my view unless you've got lots more power and then you've got lots more heat.

Nope, don't waste your money, for the reasons Dave has outlined.

Thank you for your advice , I was hoping at around $90.00 USD I would of been ok .
I guess that I will have to work on getting my 2 Flashes of Camera.
I have this on order I was hoping to trigger the Vivitar 285Hv off cam with the 430EX .

With your 430EX in manual mode the slave should work. Check out one at : http://www.flashzebra.com/opticalslaves/index.shtml
