The G6 finally arrived today. Tough to stay at work and resist the temptation to play with the new toy. One quick question. I noticed Canon supplies a 32MB High-Speed CF card (FC-32MH). Obviously 32MB is not nearly enough, I'll probably end up getting a 1 GB card soon. My question is, should I go for a high speed? I read somewhere on this message board the the G6 wouldn't be able to take advantage of a high speed (although they didn't give a reason).
I have a 256MB "standard" CF card from my A70 that I'll probably use in the meantime.
Thanks.

No. G6 does not have the write acceleration technology used in some dSLRs. Don't bother wasting money on the ultra-high speed cards. However, if you are taking multiple shots in succession, having a fast card can help you clear the buffer faster. So avoid the old Sandisk and Lexar cards, and also avoid the Kingston cards. The newer versions of these regular cards should be plenty fast for your G6.

if u can find a case for portable hard disk that can back up your CF card that is better than u buy a large and expensive CF card..
here i found a case that can back up CF card using camera's USB port .. but u must to buy a hard disk .. i think it's enough to buy 40GB hard disk for portable purpose and 256MB CF ...
im not buying the case yet.. the brand's sound something like MIO ... double A battery adapter also included inside the box when i was observing it at the my nearer computer store.. i plan to buy it later

I usually buy the fastest CF card I can afford regardless of whether my present camera can utilize the speed or not. That way, I can use the card in cameras with faster write speeds if the opportunity presents itself, like if I bought a new DSLR today for instance.

Will the high speed card have an advantage when I'm using my card reader to download the images into my computer?

Yes, if you are using a USB 2.0 card reader.
