Wonderful symetery...
Shame #3 either didn't have Smoke On or it's just not reading against the clouds.

One could have a great deal of fun trying different processing looks for this.

You got better vision than me James...did you have that IR Lasek done? ;)

I see a hint of exhaust trail but I sure don't see smoke out of #3 like I do coming from #1 and #2...

I don't think I've seen that angle here, before. Nice one.

This is one of my favorite shots of the Angels I've seen. It's a perspective of them that we rarely see. Great job. I've got great eyesight and I can't see the smoke either. Oh well. Still a great shot!!!

I used my 70-200 2.8L IS w/ 1.4xII extender.

He had smoke on. The original and print has the smoke just coming out of the exhaust and then it disappears. I guess I will have to put some in there before I put in for any type of judging.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

@ the OP: What was your location on the airfield when you shot this?

I'm fairly certain they don't make this formation break flying toward or away from the crowd line so were you in line with the runway in some form or fashion?

I was show center and they flew from behind over the crowd. I shot it as they broke straight overhead. Lucky shot. I consider it my best aircraft shot ever. The clouds are white all around the planes giving them an "angelic" glow. I printed a large print and it looks nice on my office wall.

Thanks for your comments everyone!

Gorgeous picture. You're absolutely right about it being a one in a million shot. Was this on your 5D or 30D? I only ask because if it's the 30Dthere's hope for me to get shots about 1/1000th as good as that...

It was my 5D and 70-200 2.8L IS w/ 1.4xII extender. I had a 100-400L but sold it to get the 5D. I remembered having my 100-400 pulled in to around 300 most of the time at airshows so I figured the 70-200 with extender would be close enough. It was definitely worth it to me. The 5D is awesome with portraits. That is my main interest...but I have loved jets since birth. Who hasn't? :)

Cracking shot, right time - right place. I was convinced that you had a privileged position, rather than just being "in the crowd" - That makes it even better.

Great shot cbjetboy! I was sitting at the fence in front of the right most Blue Angel on the tarmac, the opposite side of the F-22's.
I just wanted to post a pic I took from the show on Saturday. It's my favorite out of all of them at http://www.macdogg.com/JAlbum/AirFest08/BlueAngels/album/index.html.

You can easy place smoke for number three by just copy it from 1 or 2 that why nobody would had known the differants.

Great shot...I need to be show center next time. I didn't get one like that this year....all my cards were filled by the time the Angels were 3/4 through their show.
