Hey everyone,

I'm sure this question has been asked a thousand times, but after a forum search, I've only really found answers that are a bit indepth for a newbie like me (I only picked up a camera for the first time 6 months ago).

Heres the scenario - I have a Canon EOS 400d, and a 580exii.

A week friday, I'm shooting a friends band, and its likely to be in dark conditions outside.

What I would like to do is to mount my 580exii somehow and fire it back into an umbrella which will bounce onto the band.

What will I need to be able to do this - in terms of a stand, clamp, umbrella and flash trigger?

I've seen a white and black umbrella which should do the job nicely at that end, but I havent got a clue on the other stuff. Obviously I would like an ST-E2, but thats well out of my price range for this month.

All ideas/suggestions welcome :)

Cheers,
John

A short video on gear jargon:

Beyond that, you need light stand, swivel bracket, umbrella.

If it's going to be at a gig, you really don't want to have to deal with setting up umbrellas and all that jazz..you will miss too many shots worrying about your equipment.

My best advice is to bounce off of yourself. Use an off-camera cord and wear a white shirt. Bounce the flash off of yourself with your flash at its widest setting.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the responses :)

I'll have a look through that video and see if it makes anything clearer to me - honestly, im not ignorant or scared of searching, I just need everything in the simplest possible form as I'm a bit of a numpty lol!

As for the shoot itself, its only a promo shoot outside so no gig action so to speak - although my site is http://www.ishootgigs.com if you get two minutes to take a look - always looking for feedback on how I can improve!

Cheers,
John

Read this (http://photo.net/learn/concerts/mirarchi/concer_i). Get a nice fast lens and forget about flash.

Cheers, I already have a couple of fast lenses and shoot gigs (www.ishootgigs.com), but this is just for promo shots in dark places :)
