This was taken at Leyburn (near Toowoomba, Qld, Australia). It was freezing at night, and so clear! It was so cold the battery in my camera stopped working!
That one was 1000sec, 50mm, f/4, I lit the tree up with a torch for a few seconds.

Nice Dan.
Where abouts in Leyburn were you? I ask as I am in a society that has a dark sky site just outside of Leyburn.

Nice, and only a few hot or duff pixels for such a long exposure. Personally I would've preferred it if you got the South Central Pole in there too, but no matter, it's still a lovely shot.

G'day XR6Dan and AMD72. I was wondering where you reckon the best "dark skies" were around Brisbane general area. I was thinking of attempting some star trails etc, but not sure of good sites that might have some foreground interest as well.
Great shot BTW.

I'm in Brisbane, but my father-in-law owns a property in the township, just down the road from the pub. I took this photo when the Leyburn Sprints were on. The sky is unbelievably clear up there!

Thanks. I'm pretty happy with the ol' 300D and it's long exposure. It doesn't really give me too many hot pixels or amp burn. Funnily enough I was aiming for SCP but I was a little out. I was going to take another pic but my camera thought it was flat (even though the battery was fully charged) - a little too cold I think.

On the way back from Leyburn there are quite a few places along the road where you look down on valleys and rolling hills - I though that might be nice with a few lights from the farms etc. and startrails. Could also drive around a bit to get headlight/tail light trails too. There are also some grain silo's and old farm machinery which would be great in the foreground.
