That's a really cool shot, the angle of perspective is great.
Main thing distracting me is the blown out sky off the to right, but otherwise very nice!

Yea, the sky is a bit hot, but that's really a great shot.

I love this one! It would have been a little better if the sky wasn't so blown out in the upper right corner, but that doesn't take too much away from the scene.

This shot has real character. Looks like it could be something straight out of a Zane Grey or Louis Lamour novel. Nice work. :D

Nice work. Such a real, fully formed picture. Keep them coming.

No sweat. Controling blown out highlights is job that can be mastered. Having the talent to see and shoot the well composed photo is another thing entirely.

I've seen a couple of your photos here and I, for one, am impressed.

Keep 'em coming 8-)

I love the shot as a photo of the gentlman,.
The B&W works very well,. and helps a lot with the sky issue.
It's a very good photo! :)

...but I don't think the title works too well,. (I know I'm nitpicking) as the Dog is clearly not a prominent subject.

Who is this guy by the way? He's fabulous!

Jessica Rabbit

It wasnt a staged shot actually. The guy is someone I know at a ranch I was at working my horse.

*Very* good shot. Seems the front chair is sharper than the subject though . . . (Could be my eyes of course). Try some USM on the person and some gaussian blurr on the front chair?

Looks like they've both found their niche.
I like it very much, good shot! Did he know you made it?
Thank you.

very nice scene Jessica.
he looks terrific sitting there

also the bright part on the bottom if cropped slightly it would help to focus on him and the dog

great shot... this picture has a lot of character. This would look good as a duotone with a brown/sepia feel to it. Maybe just crop out some of the blown out sky

Beautful shot I love this , It has so much character. Did you take it in B&W or color and than convert to B&W (greyscale) in PS. I've personnelly found it is better to shot in color and convert in PS or PSP9. that way you have the best of both worlds. But I do think this shot works so much better B&W or maybe a slight sepia tone to make it look older.

Jessica I hope you don't mind but I did a Sepia tone to show what it would look like, I'll leave on for a couple of days and than take it off if you like. What do you think

Yes, please share your technique. I love experimenting with different techniques for toning.

I'm using Paint Shop Pro9 by Jasc, very similar to Photo Shop but a lot less in cost

http://www.jasc.com/

The steps I used were very simple and I think avalaible in Photo Shop
go to EFFECTS
click on Artistic effects
click on sepia toning
when the window comes up I set the "amount to age" at 35 ( range is 0 to 100) 100 being very reddish brown. I then hit the easy out "clarify" I could have also added a little noise to make it look even more aged.
I really like Paint Shop Pro, much easier learning curve does 90% of what Photo Shop does even accept alot of the photo shop plug-ins and you can't beat the price.
hope this helps.

Jessica I do similar sepia toning in photoshop give me a bit and I will find the steps in my notes

RickHulshof

The method I use came from here I use a variation of the backround for the edges but this should get you started. I used Hue at
about 30, and Saturation to about 30 for this sample done from the directions in the PDF link.

I just found the torn edge image I made to make the edges look ripped - looks better on a darker image but might give you an idea
