Ok I am in need to start getting my holiday session backdrops and props. Can anyone make any recommendation or have samples of what they have done in the past. I really want clients to be happy with there studio shots, thanks everyone

I wrapped some empty boxes in various colors of wrapping paper. I kept it a solid color so that the pattern didn't look bad. Put a bow on the box and there you go. For our daughter (3 weeks), I bought some fake snow from JoAnn Fabrics and put her on a black background and got some snow shots. I think a baby in a diaper and little knit snow cap surrounded by fake snow is cute. At least that's what my wife told me I think is cute. I bought a pre-lit Christmas tree last year after the season was over for about 50% off. Haven't set that up yet for shots. I'm trying to find a backdrop to use this year, though.

That's funny.

Have you tried backdropoutlet.com? I know there's mixed reviews on them, but they've been good to me.

I also prefer simple backgrounds and to use props. It's just more cost effective for me. I bought some giant plastic round Christmas ornaments for $3 each the other day. I've also used a ton of fake presents much like an earlier poster.

These are all from a marathon shoot I did this weekend. If it was in my studio, I would have had a Christmas tree in the background.

I have a "pink holiday" photo set for my studio as a bonus look with all photoshoot booked in November and December. I used a pink background, a pink christmas tree (which I purchased a Big Lots), and bought a bunch of different pink colored fabrics to wrap empty boxes and use as presents. I think I spent about $50 on the tree and $50 on fabric and I already had the boxes. I also bought some pink and silver ornaments to use too - which I got at Big Lots too.

Although my studio is glamour/boudoir/pin-up based and not family portraits, so I don't know how well my pink holiday photo set would work in a portrait setting, but going to stores like Big Lots and Jo-Ann Fabrics can do wonders on creating a great photo set. It's all about how you pull it all together.

Also, don't be afriad to look at thrift shops! They normally have a holiday section set up this time of year and you can get a TON of props, costumes, etc. really really cheap!

thanks everyone, looks like I need to start wrapping from presents, put up the fake tree, and find some big old ornaments. Thanks again and ill post my setup once it unfolds

I'd stay away from the shiny ornaments....every time someone posts a pic with those you can see everything in them...lights, photog, etc.
