I am going to the UCLA game Saturday (Nov 8 ). Does anybody have any advice about taking cameras to the game? Specifically, I would like to take my Xti and 70-200 2.8 in the stadium. Is this ok, or are the security guards going to send me back to my car?
I have searched the UCLA site, with no luck as well as this site. Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Might want to look a little harder:
Did a Google search on "UCLA Bruins Football" and this led me here:

and the above address sent me here:

Neither of those links answers the OP's question. Banned lists inlcude video camera and tripods but no mention of SLR cameras. Allowed list mentions "small still cameras" but again nothing about SLRs. The first link does inlclude a phone number but an answer from them is not the same as getting first hand info from people who have been there.

Maybe my eyes are magic, but I could swear this answers the question as well as it normally is answered:
Permitted items:
Small still cameras, sack lunches, binoculars, small radio, medical prescriptions, flags no larger than 2'x3'. Sealed plastic bottles (2 qt. size or less) and empty cups or sports bottles are permitted in the Rose Bowl. All other containers including cans, glass bottles, thermoses and coolers are not permitted.
This is very typical of even the biggest stadiums. They are (I swear) intentionally vague so as to leave room for interpretation by the folks at the gate. My guess is you could get away with a SLR and a smallish lens. A 70-200 might be OK.
However, as had been said over and over on this site, it doesn't matter what anyone on this or any other forum tells you - the only authorities are the teams, the venue and the security guards. The number listed on the Rose Bowl site, (626) 577-3101 or the one listed on the UCLA site (310) 825-8699. These should be the only sources of real information. Get the name of the person who tells you it's OK and bring this name with you in case you get friction at the gate.

What do you think he should say: "This guy on POTN told me I could bring my camera and lens in and he got his lens in, so you have no right to stop me."? Huh.
Or, what I would suggest you really do- don't bring anything in and enjoy the game, or bring a point and shoot and take pictures of your friends and yourself. Honestly, an XTi and a 70-200 will not produce very good results. Just be a fan.

Maybe where you live. All of them around me are very specific:
- Still-cameras may be used at any time provided that their use does not interfere with another guest's ability to enjoy the atmosphere...
- Cameras with a lens longer than 8 inches may not be brought inside of the ballpark, except by credentialed media.
- Still cameras, without detachable lenses, are allowed for all basketball and hockey games.
- And "Feel free to bring still cameras and small video cameras"
However, as had been said over and over on this site, it doesn't matter what anyone on this or any other forum tells you - the only authorities are the teams, the venue and the security guards.

Above here I quoted the exact text of the websites in my area. That last one is pretty clear. Even says "Feel free". You can even call them and they'll say the same thing. But if you were to post on here and some locals about it, they'd be able to tell you about the college student who got kicked out of the park for using an SLR and large lens. Wasn't blocking the view. Wasn't violating written policy. But he got kicked out by security guards. It worked out for the best because he made a big stink about it on line, the local papers picked it up and he ended up being allowed to come back to the stadium and shoot a game from the field. The guards have now been reminded that people are allowed to take pictures so it is now is a good time to go with a camera, assuming you can manage to get tickets.
The official policy is good to know, but actual intel about how that policy is (or isn't) being enforced is of much greater value.

I have called the numbers listed above, and I got nothing. I want to thank everyone for helping me research this issue. I have decided not to take my camera, and then simply ask one of the security people. That way I can post back here a clear answer to the question.

Brandon - I'm sorry things worked out that way, but I've been dealing with Division 1 College SID's for years and have never, not once, failed to get an answer to a question like the one you are seeking. Did you try to contact the SID's office at UCLA? I guarantee you can get there (or get the number) from the UCLA number listed in my post above.
From the CSTV link I posted above, you can get here:
http://uclabruins.cstv.com/departments/ucla-dept-directory.html
Here's the guy you want (though he certainly would have an Assistant SID who would handle your request - many schools have Assistant SID's assigned to each of the major sports):
http://uclabruins.cstv.com/genrel/dellins_marc00.html
Or any of the people listed under the "Sports Information (310/206-6831, Fax - 825-8664)" section of this page, starting with Assoc. Athletic Director/Sports Information Director, Marc Dellins,

dmwierz,
thanks for the help. I still didn't get the answers I was looking for. Like I mentioned above, I will ask a few security folks at the game tomorrow and get an answer and report back.

I attended the Fresno St and UCLA game drove from Fresno area.
I too called the stadium and they told me one answer. I ended up not taking my camera. However that day I must had seen 5 DSLR wil long lens that I was told couldn't be brought in.
I was frustrated.

Exactly. I saw a 5D with a 24-70mm on it. And I saw an XTi with the 70-200mm on it. So I guess I should have just brought it with me.

I went to the UCLA/BYU game last year and brought my camera with no issues at all. :)
